Power Kite Forum

Enough with the horror stories!! YIKES!

beachrights - 3-3-2008 at 06:19 PM

There have been ALOT of injury stories posted the past few days. :o Is there anyone out there who is still in one piece?! I know the stories are out there for letting all of us know if someone got hurt and how to prevent them but......

Can we go back to our "happy place" forum? A land of 15mph winds and blue skies. Beamers and Bullets and buggies galore. Trading kites and mods.

I am afraid to put my 1.0 in the sky after reading todays posts!!

All I can say is -Listen to the little voice in your head! [ the good one not that crazy guy!] If it tells you to put the 8 meter back in the bag-DO SO!!

I will be hiding under my bed if you need me!

Agreed! Being 17 and teaching my friends to kite, I see why people could get hurt though.

What I find a LOT of on here is people that want to start the sport and go straight to jumping ALL IN ONE KITE.

I'm getting a little tired of putting them straight but Heh , I'ld only be half a "know it all" if I hadn't answered them all. :D

We need to at least tell them about the dangers and the safe way to do things. They need to realise they are representing the sport and all of us. :duh:

true it definetly takes a huge learning curve and tons of common sense. and some "big ones" today i was fly my pl while everyone else was flying their little stunt kites i thought it was so funny when everyones kites came down and they started watching me. i got so many questions from bystanders.

domdino - 3-3-2008 at 07:02 PM

I know! I thought this was a happy happy joy joy forum but i got jumped on today for saying that fixed bridle kites scare me!!!
:(
Still, it's warming up here in the city and the winds blowing nicely so my smile is growing :)

beachrights - 3-3-2008 at 07:06 PM

Ok, I am out from under my bed.... but tomorrows winds are forecasted for 20-25 with gusts to 40 and I am not going over a 2.5 meter! And its going to be a Bullet- My Aces are sitting this session on the bench! I will skud from here to the west coast but jumping is a no-no tomorrow!

Yes Nick...now be quiet!

beachrights - 3-3-2008 at 08:11 PM

I am back under the bed! Nick scares me!

We thought one of the bad stories like this would be ABOUT you Nick. You must be staying on the correct side of the edge of the cliff. I think it is important for us to inform all the newbies that want to get into the sport with a 6m lifty kite. Then it is up to them to heed our advice. I personally think it is a good thing to be a little scared about some aspects of this sport. The other good thing is to know when to be scared. I told Dustin not to launch the kite if the wind picks up too much. He asked my how to tell and I told him to keep it on the ground if the wind made him "pucker up". He nodded accordingly, but now I realize he doesn't have the experience to know when he should be puckered up. We do know so we can live to fly another day. Fly safe guys. It's only a community if we are all here.

It also dosen't matter if its a Blade or a Bullet! Wrong conditions with any kite. Is dangerous.
