ok so I was hooking up new line sets to three kites today and I finally got a clue for no more new line set tangle maddness
check it out
it seems a bit complicated ..its not..and it works
ok
1. throw a stake in the ground and take all four of the line ends that sick out from the inside of the spool and and stake them out.
2. then walk away from the stake and slowly unwind the spool
3. when you get to the end of the lines set them down
4. walk back to the stake and release just one brake line ( they are thinnest) from the stake.
5. go back to the other end and pick up all four lines and figure out which one has no tension by gently pulling on all of them ...one should break
free and be without tension....
6. slowly wind that line up with the empty winder.....the end, if sleeved nicely should slide itself through the other lines without fuss until its
wound up on the winder.
7. then throw another stake in the ground and put that free line in the stake and walk back to the kite letting out the line so that it is away from
the rest of the other lines....
8. attach that to the kite and that line is done....then release the other brake line and go back and do it again.....
after that brake line...you only have one line left...so once you do one power line after the brakes there is of course only one other power line
which by default becomes free.......
there is a bit of walking invloved
but
boy I went from trying to detangle a fresh line set for 45 min to this 5 min method...it really works well

Now that's a great idea! It really can't fail either. Every line you get free cuts your possible tangles in the remaining lines. Someone suggested
something similar as a technique for getting tangles out. Like when I had a power line pop off my profoil in 25 mph winds. The line sprung towards
me while the kite was spinning. This technique with the winder and removing one line at a time linearly seems like an involved path to straight lines
but it is a straight path to success. I keep winders in my bag all the time now.

Hmm. What brand line sets came tangled? HQ, PL, Flexi, they always fall off the winder on to the ground straight and true as railroad tracks.
About the only time I get tangles is when I unwind lines that were wound by someone else- not there fault; they just used a different motion and my
natural motion induces a twist.
I find that on factory sets, if you unwind power lines and brake lines seperately in pairs, they fall straight and true.

I've only unwound 4-5 new sets of lines, and the Pansh lines laid right out the first time. I can't remember a factory set coming off twisted to
start with.

My Beamer III 3m brake lines came twisted but the power lines were fine. :P

My Pansh lines were fine. When I wind my lines I wind the right brake and power on, then the left brake and power on.
