Making Pulley Handles

Bladerunner - 14-3-2008 at 05:12 PM

I just stumbled on Jellis's handy dandy handle makin' scheeeeematic again !

These are brilliant and all though I haven't tried them I have heard good reviews. They assist with braking on larger kites.

I use them on my 8.5 Blaze with power rings and it turns GREAT.

Thanks, I think I can use them on the 9 but great to " try before I buy " !

You ordered some pulleys or can you get the complete handles somewhere? I saw the blueprint but without some coaching I don't fully understand the concept. I mean I see the pulley and the brake line going through to the lead lines but I start to get lost after that.
totally, dazed and confuzed :spin:

You can get the complete handles premade from http://kitebuggyspeedshop.com/index.htm

jellis - 15-3-2008 at 11:08 AM

Sodfarmkiter it is better to see one set and then copy them, and if you are at nabx you can look at the ones I use and try them. If you would like a set please let me know before I head down to nabx.

buy premade...

jellis has done all the dirty work setting up correct lenghts.

purchase one copy the rest. LOL. sorry Jon.

Hey that's is what I recommend anyway, that way you have a pattern. I don't mind making them up and it is cool to share new ideas so buggiers making their own might come up with an improvement, and share with me. By the way the new power handles don't use the knot system on the power line side anymore. I use a bowline combined with a double larks head knot.

sodfarmkiter - 16-3-2008 at 01:46 PM

Now these handles do what exactly? I mean bigger kites turn tighter and what else? Don't mean to seem de te dee but it is kind of a concept for me. :puzzled:

USA_Eli_A - 16-3-2008 at 01:57 PM

thats what they do....they increase the brake line handle pressure and make kites way more dynamic. You have twice steering ability.

on small kites....whoooo hoooo!

Bladerunner - 16-3-2008 at 04:29 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 2 : 1 brake action also helps wimps like me adding brake more easily when my bigger kites are heavily powered ?

Snowbird it is the other way, 2/1 in the kites favor. But you can do so much more with these handles, upwind performance is improved, turning can be accelerated and improved. You just have to fly them and let them open your eyes.
