HQ knock off

sodfarmkiter - 22-3-2008 at 09:51 PM

Is this a knock off of an HQ Montanna kite or what? I just cought a glimpse of this on ebay and I just had to see what you all thought!:puzzled:
http://cgi.ebay.com/9-5-M-POWER-TRACTION-KITE-SNOW-LAND-BOAR...

leebrianh - 23-3-2008 at 05:30 AM

no way! It is just like original HQ Montana! Can they do that?

manitoulinkiter1 - 23-3-2008 at 06:22 AM

Hey all

I would agree that looks exactly the same as a Montanna.

HQ-Powerkites - 23-3-2008 at 06:58 AM

What the hell is that?
That is our kite (Montana 1) and they also used the text of the Montana III.

Same guy that sells rev knock-offs and the CHROME-PLATED alum rockvilles He and his sister or wife lives in Canada, Vancouver I do believe....

I reported to Evil-bay{e-bay} and to rev the first time the revs started to pop up but its up to them now to take action if its worth the time and effort....

I yanked this guys chain way to much ,I bet if your searched his house you'll find boot-leg DVDs and a sex slave or two

sodfarmkiter - 23-3-2008 at 08:27 AM

I believe his name is Tang, and he calls his company USAmarket. lol I noticed the sale is for kite only, and the only thing off is that the 9.5 should be blue not red. I know it's messed up!

USA_Eli_A - 23-3-2008 at 05:06 PM

i like the colors

Baluk - 23-3-2008 at 05:10 PM

I shot an email off to HQ earlier, looks like Tim here sees it too.. lets hope this gets settled soon and with satisfaction [on our side]

USA_Eli_A - 23-3-2008 at 05:19 PM

that's a knock off? looks like a montana....?

acampbell - 23-3-2008 at 05:21 PM

Yeah that's ballzy copyright infringement. The ad copy is word for word from the HQ site (for the wrong kite as Tim pointed out).

USA_Eli_A - 23-3-2008 at 05:22 PM

i thought nova and HQ were the same..I have nova/HQ/Invento in my store....

who is the designer of HQ?

HQ-Powerkites - 23-3-2008 at 06:29 PM

Nova andHQ has nothing to do with each other. Nova Design Group was renamed to HQ KItes & Designs USA.
This is who you buy from Eli, not Nova. That change was made Jan 1st 2006......

HQ Kites USA (formerly Nova Design Group) is a subsidiary of Invento in Germany

krumly - 24-3-2008 at 07:00 AM

I remember bringing this same guy up in a post regarding the Rev copies, which were still under patent protection, a year or so ago. Pretty lame.

Now, without meaning to be too harsh, if you were going to be so insolent as to knock off a depower foil why would you pick the Montana 1? I mean, you guys that have flown them all agree the III is a far better kite...

So I'm a bit thick sometimes, but are Nova and Nova Design group different from each other entirely? Is that kite really related to either one or just a pirate copy?

How about those european comp wins?

acampbell - 24-3-2008 at 07:39 AM

Yeah, it's a different "Nova". But I wonder if that is a coincidence or if the guy is playing off the old name.

Bladerunner - 24-3-2008 at 09:12 AM

Funny , we never see these or the Rev. knock-offs sold around here ? The shipping is from U.S.A.

Just exactly why do you think that this is a Vancouver based family.

Give us a location and the K-3 will possy up !!! :borg:

Didn't HQ used to be have a rep for copying Ozone ?

ripsessionkites - 24-3-2008 at 10:36 AM

what, someone is copying kites and lives in Vancouver ... FIGHT TIME.
honestly our market here is so small we're not even on the map. With the local guys that actually ride, they seem to only buy high quality brand name kites. I've never seen these "copied revs" or the "copied buggy trike" at either of our local parks/beaches.

copying kites isnt a new thing ... when kite brands update their line up. Someone somewhere likes to take the older design and slap another company name to it. A good example when Airea went belly up ... The Airea Raptor I and II was quickly copied.

Airea Bronto ---> PKD Joy ---> Alien Easy
Airea Raptor I ---> PKD Concept ---> Alien Performance
Airea Raptor II ---> PKD Century

Either way, buying something copied usually means its lesser quality, and not to mention an older model. Unless its coming out of the same factory as the orginal than there isnt a difference. Take a look at this company: http://www.yao-kite.com/work.htm They make the Advance stuff there, I bet if you made a deal with him to put a different logo on an Advance kite he would.
They have copied the Montana I but someone who kites would probably enjoy the Montana III.

Quality over Price.

My wooden nickel thought

USA_Eli_A - 24-3-2008 at 02:24 PM

wwwooooden nickle thoughts are cool....thanks for the info Tim....that's how i thought it went, as I try my hardest to stay away from maunfactures and that end of the biz, but I would have to agree that copying designs is lame, there is no copying quality, I like that the Knock-off are bought for cheap and last half seasons before they're trash!

domdino - 24-3-2008 at 02:34 PM

That's not even a cheap knock off! Bloody expensive knock off if you ask me!!! He wants $799!!! It's only $899 for a new Montana-3! And it looks like a montana1 copy

Cheeky bugger

awindofchange - 24-3-2008 at 05:49 PM

If you check the ad, it doesn't come with lines or control bar. (fine print listed below). What this is is a complete illegal copy of the Montana kite. Please beware if you are thinking of purchasing this kite. Usually knock-offs are made with inferior products such as low quality non-treated rip stop nylon (or worse material), cotton sewing instead of high strength polyester thread, poor bridle connection points, low quality bridle line that will stretch out the second you put the kite in some wind, etc....

The worst thing is that you will be purchasing an illegal design from a company that has stolen it from the original manufacturer. What this does is cuts out all of the R&D, marketing, testing, design, layout, printing and other costs and allows the bogus company to sell the kite for much less. First you may think "WOW! I can buy the same kite for pennies" but what you are really doing is saying "I am going to cut out sales from the original manufacturer so that they will not be able to make the kites profitable in the long run". If the original designer cannot make any profit in the kites they design, they will have to shut down and will no longer design kites which means the illegal copy company will not have any kites to copy and we will not have any kites to buy at all. The worst thing is that you will purchase a bogus knock-off that will be a piece of crap kite and that will make you and the others with you think that the original manufacturer kite (that uses the good materials and construction) is also a garbage kite, giving the company that works hard to produce a great product the wrong reputation and also hurting sales in the long run.

Please think twice about sending these crooks your hard earned money. They will not be giving you a quality product at the price they are selling at and it will hurt the industry that we all love in the long run. As anyone that has been flying for any length of time will tell you....you get what you pay for and there is no substitute for a quality kite.

BeamerBob - 24-3-2008 at 06:38 PM

I sent the seller a pointed email asking the origins of the kite and where the design came from. This is his response.

Hi,

We are not sure who copied who. This kite has been around in Europe for over a decade. Thank you.

Tang

I guess this is the play dumb and try not to get implicated approach.

Baluk - 24-3-2008 at 06:44 PM

I'm still not clear how you have come to the conclusion this guy is in Vancouver Canada. Is it possible it's Van. Washington?

We aren't a huge group in Vancouver but well connected and this wouldn't be something we take lightly :flaming:

Give us some more info and perhaps we'll INTRODUCE ourselves to this guy :ticking:

Silvereaglekiter, Did your buggy come from Canada ???

some time ago I ask about the shipping amount on a knock off rev he stated that it would be coming from Canada I said I do believe:saint: but I could be wrong doesn't mean that the rockville originates from Canada or Vancouver it could be drop shipped from another place and the seller is acting as an off shore account to avoid the US patent design of revolution kites..

if you look closely in the rev ad you'll see a st. address of 190

in either case the guys not right in what he's doing..

maybe you can ask new :?:Tang and his wife or sister won't reply to my request any more

silvereaglekiter - 25-3-2008 at 11:21 AM

Dear Sir,

You should be receiving your Rockville Kite Buggy within a few days. The seat attachment should be self explanatory once you see the product but we would just like to add the following details since a few customers have expressed some confusion over it. There is a long strap at the back of the seat located in the middle portion. This strap should be used to form a triangle under the seat to add support. The three points of attachment for this strap should be the left and right frame and then the back axle. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by email or phone. Our number is (713) 517-1391. Thank you.

Yep, ditto for me too...never again though...I've had so many problems with this buggy...you truly do get what you pay for...

....and btw, how does a rear wheel fall off if the screws are tight..bearing slipping through the wheel rim???....my God, what's next with this buggy :flaming:

Bladerunner - 25-3-2008 at 04:07 PM

I totally agree that the guy is a rip off I'm just not at all convinced he is Canadain He charges more to ship to Canada than the States :?: Knock offs aren't that common in Canada.

No one that rides local has any of this guys kites. You would think he'ld be dumping them on our local buy and sell sites ?

:puzzled:

I remember in his e-bay ad that he stated that his brother left him 2 of the knock off revs about a year and a 1/2 ago {and the same house was in the background} but then more and more started to pop up from the same seller is when I started to inquire about it and report it to Lolly and Joe....
...like I said it's up to Revolution kites and HQ to decide if any action is required, even better now that silverage provided a contact number and proof that Tang is operating with -in the US

I didn't know he was passing HQ knock-offs untill this thread ..... what's next Corey Lama clones:rolleyes::lol:

I know I started this tread and it didn't even dawn on me!! My wife saw me reading this post and recognized his name from an email she deleted the other day. And sure as s#@t, I unknowingly sold him a used HQ montana I 9.5 last year on ebay... He must be using that to copy from, I don't think it's just a coincidence! And that's bulls#@t that he is trying to feed people about this kite being big in the UK, under the nova name. Is there nothing we can do about this guy?

When they paid the money came through pay pal under this email address charlottethao2@yahoo.com

kullas - 26-3-2008 at 01:53 PM

He prob bought the kites and sent them to China and they copyed them there. I dont think there is any copy right law in China. they are sent to the US as toys and there is no duty fees on toys. We got into this when we bought a whole container of RC planes. when we got them we checked them out and they were copys of the name brand planes here in the states. He is not making them so is there anything ya can do to him?

cloudswinger - 30-3-2008 at 08:03 PM

I don't think there's much you can do other than talk about it(post about it in every single forum you can so that other people know about it! There's nothing he can do about that.). HQ would need to sue the guy to keep their design/patent protections. And it is an older model, so it's probably not really worth the effort.
