Thrashers Top speed with a rockville

Sthrasher38 - 27-3-2008 at 06:37 PM

What is the fastest anyone has gone in one of these? I know they are not the most solid thing ever made but will it hold up? I was curious how fast you think you could go before it just rattles apart? I wanna push it! It's what I have for now. I know it would not last 5 min trying to jump but I am not ready for that anyway. I am just curious if anyone has tried to push them or not. Would it even be safe to try. I know after about 30 min of flying I need to tighten the wheels as they get loose. Let's hear it.( Edited) I hit 39 mph at Nabx!!:singing:

73 MPH.....on the back of my car! I do not have a gps but I do have a wireless speedo and 23 mph is my best so far. Granted my riding has been limited to last fall due to time and wind restrictions this winter. I should be taking it out very soon and lets have a "beat this" time trial. That is, if we do not turn into little pieces first! LOL

that just sounds scary. why are they coming loose? Bolts dont stay in? bearing in the rim loose?

i would say like 30mph. i'm assuming you carry tools with you in pack or something. if not, just wave when you're in the middle of the playa, and i'll tow you back. walking is never fun.

KYTE SLINGER - 28-3-2008 at 06:22 AM

I tested out the prototype ...at the time the fork didn't have enough rake to it... and around 25 maybe 30 on my
guesstament position system got the speed wobble thing going...

then one of the first generations did the same thing but I moved the down tube back and the seat up took out the wobbles a bit......

but if your looking to obtain speed this week if I were you grab a different buggy ,but be sure it fits you there will be plenty around ....If I do make it I'll have 3 bugs with me, think I'm keeping the chopper home this year and I can only ride one at a time + the rotator cup in my shoulder is flaring up from 3 weeks of riding hard everyday

Sthrasher38 - 28-3-2008 at 07:06 AM

Heal up. I hope you make it! And I do not know why they come loose. Yes I carry some tools And I am sure at one point I will be needing a ride Back. Thanks. Bo;ts don't stay in if I tighten more it just keeps the wheel from spinning free. Don't know what to do about that.

KYTE SLINGER - 28-3-2008 at 08:15 AM

Rasher

try finding 4 washers 2 being a lock washer that just make contact w/ the bearing race and the bolt and same for the back axle [they don't need to be a lock washer} or get some lock tight thread sealant

Hey S38,

When I first saw your post, I thought about that line from the movie (unfortunately, I forgot what movie) - Don't do it...you'll kill yourself! :singing:

If we have the same type of Rockville buggy, be careful. My back wheel came off the other day when doing a turn. On mine, there's nothing inside the hub holding the bearing in place (hard to explain, but on my mountainboard hubs, the bearing can only go in so far, that is not the case with my rockville. I'll show you guys at NABX and hopefully some buggy pros have some ideas.

El Mirage tomorrow and then Nabx...can't wait!

Sthrasher38 - 28-3-2008 at 09:33 AM

Thanks for the tips guys. See ya at Nabx.

sodfarmkiter - 28-3-2008 at 09:48 AM

You mean the axle bolt and the bearings were still on the buggy axle, and the plastic rim decided to just hop off? Now that would be a wild ride! :o I only ask because I won't be at NABX to see it.

KYTE SLINGER - 28-3-2008 at 12:00 PM

Theres yur problem

then if that's the case get yurself some conduit galvanized or stainless is even better the same size as the race,, cut it the same size as were the bearing seat inside of the plastic wheel so that all 3 joints {bearings & sleeve} act as one unit to wrench down on

treblehook - 28-3-2008 at 02:38 PM

Hit 32.6 mph in my rustville bug.
Was down at SLP TX---wind speed 26 to 28 mph.
was flying a 2.5 pro foil---really was smooth .
that is a personal best speed so far
had the garmin forerunner 101
not to bad for an old guy----been bugging for about a year now
what a kick---love this forum ---learn a lot + can keep in touch with other kiter's ----also I don't think I will have to worry about the front axle bolt coming off , they are rust welded on permanently .:duh: LOL
anyway be ,safe have fun Herb

Sthrasher38 - 28-3-2008 at 02:43 PM

32.6 There is something to shoot for. If Dlish would hurry up and get his gps maybe we can see how fast we are really going.:P

popeyethewelder - 30-3-2008 at 10:48 AM

I'VE GOT 2 DAYS AT NABX THIS YEAR TO TRY AND POP THAT 72.8......

SCREWYFITS - 30-3-2008 at 11:34 PM

Hey Thrasher,

If its the bolt coming loose, try the locktite (mentioned earlier) or pipe threat tape it'll help make it so it wont turn out as easy.
I also have a GPS, actually 3 if you guys want to barrow them b4 u leave. It'll give me a lil leverage on dlish to get me kites b4 u all cut out. They are just trasher GPS's so ducktape zip ties are cool with me. BreaS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-m "I don't care" HeeHee. Maybe I'll trade Dlish for a $20 discount for one... ;-) hopefully I'm hooS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n up with Dlish Mon/Tue.

SCREWYFITS - 30-3-2008 at 11:37 PM

2 GPS's are Garmin ETrax and 1 is a Garmin GPS III. They'll be good for what u wanna do.
They all take AA batts also, makes it convenient.

I waz joS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n... don't breaS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-em:o, If I get a bug I'll need 1 too.
