Girls who kite

bloah - 31-3-2008 at 06:45 AM

I don't think there are any on this board, or are there?
Well, I wonder is it possible to find a girlfriend who is into kite. Or at least can get into it and would at least enjoy flying it.
I am in relationship right now in which we both are way to different, and its going no-where, so I am thinking of looking for a girl similar to me, and why not look for a girl who likes kites.

your thoughts guys!
Cheers

archkiter - 31-3-2008 at 07:34 AM

I am a girl, but I'm taken :P - (there are a few others on this forum too)

I know a few other kiter gals so they do exist... Best bet find a girl who likes the outdoors and teach her to kite.

Bladerunner - 31-3-2008 at 09:15 AM

We are lucky around here !
We have 4 or more girls that ride with us a lot. Most of the folks wives and children come out even if they don't fly and it's a big Family.

I also consider myself lucky to have met Archkiter :singing: She is a joy to ride with and an all round nice person to hang with .

Dax - 31-3-2008 at 10:10 AM

I'm hoping to get my wife into it - she seems interested - she's gone out with me both times, but the wind hasn't been good enough to hand the kite over.

bloah - 31-3-2008 at 10:19 AM

Yeah archkiter I think finding the girl who likes outdoors is the best bet, I just realized that for relationship to last there must be at least something in common to which it is always possible to fall back

sodfarmkiter - 31-3-2008 at 10:35 AM

I've been married for 5 yrs. and been kiting for a year and a half. My wife shows no interest at all, and yet there's nothing else that we go out and do together. She won't even frisbee golf with me. Her lack of interest in the things I do has really made me lose interest in her for the most part. Don't mean to seem harsh but the only thing we have in common is our children.
You only live once! And like you, I too want someone who share some of my enthusiasm. so I guess that makes two of us.Kite chicks are cool!

we're getting populated with Girl Buggiers right now. if you cant find someone, come visit us in Vancouver, Canada. ROFL. ;)

I'm happy to say that most of my past girlfriends, all showed an interest in kitebuggying or kitesurfing. If I were still single, my first two questions are always.

Do you like the outdoors?
Have to kited before? If not, are you willing to give it a shot?

Best pickup line... Do you kite? No, well we should get together on the weekend so I can show you how.

NPWfever - 31-3-2008 at 02:12 PM

Use it all the time man!! WOO!!! :D

feral - 31-3-2008 at 02:35 PM

I'm also female and enjoy kiting but not available and too far away anyway.
We do exist though

Good luck:smilegrin:

barnes - 31-3-2008 at 02:47 PM

I knew finding a girl who kites would be impossible, so I found myself a lovely lady who isn't a bum (such as my ex.) and is willing to come try it out...granted this means I have to go on runs with her, and I'm no runner. I get bored..not technical enough!

Took my friends girl out the other day as she is super excited to learn. She was shocked when I flew over top of her with my Speed..which was accidental but she doesn't have to know that...and now shes picking up a kite, and getting lessons as soon as the water warms up! Shes a sponsored surfer, so shes pretty hyped up.

Girls that kite are tough to find, but girls who will kite are every where!

bloah - 31-3-2008 at 03:05 PM

hm, yeah I guess I should look up for girls who likes outdoors and are willing to kite, hm, I am seeing my present gf tonight, wonder what will happen =\

God speed good sir. Lay out the ulitmatium: Come try kiting with me, or I'm going to leave you for someone who will.

WELDNGOD - 31-3-2008 at 05:56 PM

My wife loves to kite . One day she had my rage 2.5 out ,the next thing I know she 's in the buggy goin down the beach! I havn't taught her how to turn, stop , or nothin' so I had to run after her before she got to the end of beach. She's hooked now, but she's scared of the speed I do with the 4.7 in a 20-25 east blow (highway speed:o)So buying kites is no problem.

Lobo - 31-3-2008 at 07:10 PM

I'm so new at this, and only the 2 kites, but my wife of 39 years is interested and has spent a few minutes on my NPW5! She's a gem! We talked about her kiting the paraglider when I was spending more time doing that, and she felt she would try it under best wind conditions...but, that's never happened, what with other things she wants/needs to do. I also think the paraglider was maybe a little more intimidating to her due to it's large size and evident power, as she's seen me "dance with the wind" with it a few times.

But, I think she'll take to the kiting, and I hope buggying. We both like outdoor stuff, biking, kayaking, hiking, camping, etc., so I think she's good to go for it.

My suggestions related to the posts so far would be, if you're single, look for someone with at least some of the same likes and some different likes. You need time together and time doing your own thing over the long haul. If you're married, try everything you can think of to work it out. The alternatives aren't pretty or as attractive as the near term makes them look.

Couple bits of advice from an old fart who's been happily married to a kitesurfing babe for 20 plus years:

If you're not married yet, hold out for the right lady. They're out there, just not easy to find. I didn't get married until my mid 30's and my wife and I both surf, kitesurf and are best friends. I've lost count of all the mis-matched couples we know who are miserable or divorced.

If you're looking for a lady who is into the outdoors, then your chances of finding one will be greater if you live somewhere where its worth it to be outside. Lots of women kiters in Hawaii. No women kiters in Ohio. Do the math.

If you're married to a lady who kites (or is interested in learning) always buy her a new quiver and board first. I learned this when I tried to get my wife into windsurfing and gave her all my old "hand me down" gear. Big mistake. She got frustrated, never progressed and gave up.

If you want to get your significant other interested in kiting, hang out with couples or women who kite. It's the women kiters who really motivated my wife to get into the sport.

sodfarmkiter - 1-4-2008 at 01:24 PM

solid advice. I didn't get married till I was 28 and I thought it was all good. But women change when they get married,at least mine did! Lots of talk no action... now what?

bloah - 1-4-2008 at 01:36 PM

I was thinking on subject matter and came to conclusion that all kiters, at least tose I know, are proactive. They always do something, not neccesserily just kiting, but everything else in life, so I add another criteria as the girl must be proactive rather then reactive. Any comments?

barnes - 1-4-2008 at 01:56 PM

Very true, never even thought about that as something to look for in a girl..then again, dating in high school is much different then the real world. ;)

roo - 2-4-2008 at 04:40 AM

Hi, I'm female and only just got my first kite so I'm still very new to kiting. But I found it encouraging that you guys seem

to appreciate the girls who kite rather than look down upon them!

I guess when wanting a relationship, people look for a partner who agrees with the things important to them so they

don't have to give that/them up.

Bladerunner - 2-4-2008 at 10:26 AM

Want to meet a girl that kites ? Go to NABX and all the other events !

I like riding with girls a lot. I find their temperment makes it a much more ZEN experience !

I'm off in an hour :singing:

bloah - 2-4-2008 at 11:12 AM

we should have some events in Canada

PHREERIDER - 8-4-2008 at 06:01 AM

a little late on this but I been married 8 yrs. we have one 6yr old girl and my wife has been to the beach to kite with me once and helped me launch my 16m at the time and that was the one and only time, and the one and only assisted launch ever. i have flown solo for one year. my little girl has been out with some but conditions can be rough and cold. i have given her a ride with me on my ATB, AND she can now chase me on her bike. but the wife nothing. the warm summer my change that. she started out as the out door thing but that hAS BEEN CHANGING. EXPECT CHANGE AND LOVE THEM FOR THAT BROTHER.

kitemaker4 - 8-4-2008 at 01:28 PM

Well I am female and been in the buggy for over 6 years now.

Good luck
Susan (npw goddess)

Kiteboarder2B - 8-4-2008 at 02:02 PM

I am in the same boat as you Bloah. I really began to finalize this realization during NABX. A brilliant piece of advise my dad gave me during the trip helped put at least one thing into perspective for me.

No matter how good-looking, successful, cool, tough, or adventurous any woman (or man just to be fair) may be, always keep this in mind. There's always AT LEAST one person out there who's just sick of his/her s*#! and can't put up with it anymore, yes son, even a kiter chick.

Thanks dad

what do you mean by at least one person out there? who is that person, wife or husband? or just some random person. Please clarify

domdino - 8-4-2008 at 02:13 PM

Hehe, it would be funny if you're girlfriend found out you wanted to break up by stumbling upon this thread :D :D

I have a lovely girlfriend who is learning to kitesurf... i'm very lucky to have her - i'm completely lacking in the emotion department, i really couldn't care much less about wanting/desiring relationships or having a woman in my life :) i love close friends and that's who she is to me - with a couple of obvious benefits over my standard friends ;)

barnes - 8-4-2008 at 02:22 PM

So I'm attempting to get the girlfriend hyped to learn to kite. I forced her to watch Something Stronger with me, she liked it..now I just need for the weather to calm down to take her out and teach her. She seems rather apathetic to it..but I'm hoping after she feels the kite grab her, she'll be hooked. I just need to get some smaller kites for her!

bloah - 8-4-2008 at 09:44 PM

it won't happen domdino. Its too late, we decided to split up on saturday, It feels #@%$#!ty, and the timing couldn't been any worse, as it is exam week in university. On top of that, I now want bow kites, and all I have is a flysurfer, and the wind is good, god, I want to fast forward 2 month from now :S

Lobo - 11-4-2008 at 01:08 PM

A wise person once said,

"One advantage of marriage is that when you fall out of love with him, or he falls out of love with you, it keeps you together until you fall in again"

So....how many marriages do you think folks "fall out of love" in, or at least think that's what happens?? Yep, you're right....all but the rarest!

That might not match everyone's opinion, but, I think she is really saying that, with time, you actually find out a bit more of what real love is (with, or without, hormones), and how much that person you've shared so much of life with can mean to you, and how much you can come to enjoy growing old together. It's not always that you have the same interests in all of life around you, but that you turn outward, and have an interest in each other. Then, you realize you are actually friends who care for each other. If it ain't happenin'......one of ya has to start it.

WELDNGOD - 11-4-2008 at 05:33 PM

If ya want to make divorce rates drop, just do the following. First you make a marriage license cost 50,000 dollars, and a divorce 50 dollars. Here's why if you as a couple, can get 50,000 dollars to get married. Then I'm pretty sure you really mean it! If it all goes to #@%$#! then 50 bucks to the court and sorry bout your luck. And if 50 Gs ain't a lot of money to you, then your on your own ,don't blame me.

barnes - 13-4-2008 at 04:04 PM

Today, I went for a run with teh girlfriend..shes a cross country runner, and just as passionate about running as I am about kiting..so I took the time to try running (something I have never quite enjoyed..not technical enough I suppose.) and I had a great time...and now, I have the right to drag her kiting..and hopefully she'll have just as great a time.

Moral of the story: if you're going to take a girl kiting, return the favor and try out her hobby! (And if you hate running on the streets, try trail running in the woods..its much more fun.)

this thread might have died by now, but just find someone who values you, and what you like to do. If that means you take off for NABX for a week, so be it. My wife is fine with me disappearing to kite, and actually likes it when I pursue my things. And yes, we have a healthy relationship. If you decide to share your life with someone, that doesn't mean giving up your life. To each its own, even in a relationship.
