I saw a post on here this weekend where someone was saying he preferred an open cell kite for water. Risky, but if that is what you're used to it can
work I hear. Some have said to carry a mesh bag with you so you can get the kite to shore if you dump it. Just stuff the kite in the bag and it will
stop "flying" in the water. I intend to not let this summer go by without trying one of my open cell kites on the water. Body dragging first and
then onto something on top of the water. I have my harness rigged and strops made, so that part is set.
To answer your first question, LEI (Leading edge inflatables) kites are the most prolific on the water. Closed cell foils are more prominent among
this crowd. They include but are not limited to the flysurfers and peter lynn twin skin kites.

an lei would be your best bet unless you own a twin skin. if you crash your open cell in the water your screwed. i have heard of people using open
cells but that is only with highly experienced flyers. i would just buy a lei or twin and play with that first instead of wrecking a good kite or
finding yourself in trouble.

The other problem with the open cell on water is no self-rescue. You will be swimming ashore dragging a bag of laundry instead of using an inflated
kite that can help sail you in.

ok thanks, I don't think I'll have the money for that for a while but thanks for the advice I'll stick to dry land till I get a suitable kite
