Not sure where to post this

Not sure if this goes in the kitesurf section or not. But, I'm proud to announce that I pulled my first off the lip kiteloop with my Blade III 10.5m this afternoon. I've not tried to kiteloop my 10.5 while surfing but went for it this afternoon. Waves were about 3' wind was about 13-15mph.

It was perfect. I don't do kiteloops very often while kitesurfing and only when I'm on a 4.9m or smaller. The 10.5 was very smooth and a lot easier than expected. I just wish I had some video of it.

Respect! That kite is tough to kiteloop considering how slow it is. ANd you did on waves, wow!

speleopower - 12-4-2008 at 05:20 PM

Thanks. It was cool. I was watching the kite thinking oh, crap here we go. You get pulled down wind real fast when looping a foil especially while in the air.

bloah - 12-4-2008 at 05:30 PM

I actually just flew my blade 10.5 in 9 km/h, it still pulled me quite a bit and got even few pendulum jumps, around 4 ft thou.

speleopower - 12-4-2008 at 05:55 PM

I'm not a huge fan of the 10.5. It's just a little to slow in the turns for me. But it pulls like a freight train. The power is just not as usable as my Quadrifoil XXXL 8.5meter. I hear the Blade IV 8.5 meter has a similar wind range as the 10.5 but turns quicker and has more pop for jumping.

The attached picture is me jumping with a XXXL in very light wind off of a very small wave. The kite has super pop unlike the 10.5 meter.

:thumbup: You are SO COOL

Keep the foil fires burning BUDDY !!!! :borg:

speleopower - 12-4-2008 at 07:17 PM

hehehehe...I'm cool :tumble:

Foils for me

Blimps are for.... :puzzled:

The cool thing is two guys were out flying LEI's. Both crashed their kites within seconds of each other. They were good flyers pulling off double spinner board grabs. Neither of them got their kites back up in the air. Their kites got tumbled in the surf. They were flying Best Waroos. I think what happened is they hit a lull and the kites fell out of the sky hence the reason they crashed within seconds of each other. If you dump in the surf very few kites will relaunch. I wish I had my camera!!

NPWfever - 12-4-2008 at 08:47 PM

What do you do if the kite crashes?

speleopower - 12-4-2008 at 09:17 PM

simple answer-swim.
Long answer-I carry a large mesh sack. I then wind up the lines on the handles. Then stuff the kite into the bag and swim. On the beach I unroll the kite and let it flap around in the breeze while holding it for a bit. Then put it on the sand and unroll the lines and in about another 15 minutes I'm usually back up and flying.

I've not crashed a kite in the water since 2004. I really only kitesurf in the waves and most kites won't come out of the water after getting twisted up by the waves not even LEI's.

Sweet! I don't believe what I read either:singing: as far as foils not being used for the water

speleopower - 13-4-2008 at 10:24 AM

Foils on water work just fine. Just have to pay more attention to your kite.

Here's a Quadrifoil Competition XL.

dude your hardcore thats so cool keep on kiting bro. i got mad respect for you flying open cells in the water. i manage to drop my kite at least once every time i go out.

speleopower - 13-4-2008 at 11:45 AM

Keep at it. The more you fly the less you drop. Just focus on flying the kite no matter what.

Thanks for posting all the pics Spele!

Can you also post that pic of your handle/strop again.

speleopower - 14-4-2008 at 03:28 PM

Ok Davinch here is one of my handle harness line setups. They are Concept Air handles and a Chinook windsurf harness line.

How do you manage to body drag with handles?

speleopower - 29-6-2008 at 04:58 PM

Same way you do with a bar. There is no real difference.

Scott

bloah - 29-6-2008 at 05:14 PM

I tried to kitesurf with blade 10.5 today, I put it on a bar 50 cm! The kite didn't even want to turn! #@%$#!ty! Had to put it down!

speleopower - 29-6-2008 at 05:31 PM

If it flys right on handles why change it to a bar? Bars suck for fourline foils anyway. Take your Blade on the water with handles. Gotta have balls...take 'em with you...don't leave 'em on the beach:D

clintopher - 29-6-2008 at 05:52 PM

Spele,

Just curious how much you weigh and which kite you use for what wind?

Clint

bloah - 29-6-2008 at 06:05 PM

but how do I lunch then on water, have to hold the handles with both handles all the time then thou

Bladerunner - 30-6-2008 at 11:18 AM

Way to go Bloah

I tried my 9m Blade II on a bar and it didn't work well at all. Not even with the 2:1 crossover. I expected a lot more :( I understood the kite came from a surf background and that the previous owner removed the brakes ? That makes sense with a 4.9 but didn't work for mine ?
You shouldn't give up ! Try it again with handles !

If Flash Austin wasn't such I kite #@%$#! I bet he would have stuck with foils :wink2:

Ha Ha,
Your Frenglish is kicking in :singing: (French Canadian English )
If you want " lunch" on the water you need a Peter Lynn. They auto zenith.

You have to launch from shore and NEVER crash. Body drag out. Getting in the board when flaoting just means getting the kite settled at the zenith ( or along the edge of the window ) then keeping everything calm with the kite using one hand while loading into the board with the other . The strop makes one handed flyin possible.

Zenith isn't the best place to set a fixed bridle kite with the power needed to surf. Practice getting into the board with the kite more like 10 or 2 oclock. I might guess it will be easier to keep the kite calm at those positions one handed as well.

Spelio, How do you set up to get going on the board ?

speleopower - 30-6-2008 at 04:58 PM

Yeah, park the kite at or neaer the zeinth. Grab your board stick your feet in the foot straps and go. It's pretty easy once you get out there and go for it.

You just gotta man up and go:evil:

Here's a picture of a stalefish nosegrab thing like my avatar.

I've gotta say, man what an awesome pic. Looks like a great amount of fun :D. I'm definitely going to get some windsurf harness line to make my strop! :P

speleopower - 3-7-2008 at 03:25 PM

It was taken by a professional Japanese photo guy. In that pic I'm riding a 4.9 meter Quadrifoil Competition XL.

Here is another one.
