Ace 3.5 Modded with a CEPAT (AoA adjustments)

SCREWYFITS - 13-4-2008 at 08:47 PM

OK...
What a difference this makes... its kinda fun...

Let me state that I am a lil OCD (or a lot) when it comes to my hobbies... so I like to research and fidget with my stuff.

This mod kinda needs that attention, I had to adjust the breaks a lil after the mod change.

With it in low AoA mode, I flew the 3.5m in winds I probably wouldn't fly in... not that it was too high but too gusty.
The window grew to past the point of over my head, at first when it hit the above my head point it would collapse into itself. Then the adjustment to the breaks (shorter) it helped dramatically. problem was the break turning was much more responsive to any pilot input, over break would collapse the inflation and takes a second to regain power.

Once I got it down I could fly it flawlessly and it was a blast in the gusty winds, seemed more stable and could handle the changes in wind speeds easier.

I have not tried the High AoA mode yet. But be sure I post as soon as I do.

Expect pics of the mods later tonight.

Get ready tommorow is the day. I want to see this in action.

Ok I looked into doing this for my 8m Ace to expands its windrange. I cut the line and everything but I had this thought....what if the line cuts my bridles. What did you use? All I have is dacron line.

SCREWYFITS - 13-4-2008 at 09:52 PM

Well my dumb a$$ left the CEPAT mod at home so I'll have to post it later.

The full detailed mods can be found in this forum and others forums if you need more explanations.

I would like to share the Mini AoA I built for my Ace 5m, it is going to be more convenient to adjust high to OEM to low AoA. I'll be installing this week and hopefully I'll give a review...

For the 2/3/4 bridal group (A,B,C) and the A,B,C1 extensions.

Well the CPEAT is attached into the bridal system just like your fly lines.

The Mini AoA I used the small key rings for the B bridal to slide through so hope fully no wear...
and the mod slides not the bridal so if it wrecks it ill make a new one...

WowowowowowowO! Wait a second....! I went to measure out to try my cepat and the thing is like 4 feet long! That can't be right?! Its for my 8m but the 5+6m ones call for a 72cm initial distance, then like 6 gaps at 12cm each. This is crazy?! When I went to do the epat a while back they were like 3cm long. Did I mess up or what?!

NPWfever - 14-4-2008 at 07:17 PM

My bad! It's in MM! hhaahhhahaha *kicks self in head* (multiple times)

SCREWYFITS - 14-4-2008 at 09:18 PM

Yeah... I shortened the whole thing up 15mm. I didn't want all that extra line... plus mine is going on a 5m... I woulda flew it today but the wind was violent and the Blaze 3m was lifting me a foot or so... :o I did my first pendulum jumps, only a foot or two off the ground but traveled 6-8 feet. great feeling... I can see how the larger kites would be nicer...

NPWfever - 15-4-2008 at 06:04 AM

Got mine done on my 8m. I have an 8cm gap where it says "75mm" and then 2cm gaps from there. It's just set in the neutral position now, but not gonna get it up.....40mph predicted.

WELDNGOD - 16-4-2008 at 06:24 AM

What are you guys using for line and where did you get it?

SCREWYFITS - 16-4-2008 at 12:15 PM

I get the line at a place called Doms here in town and they supply all kinds of outdoor stuff, and its only $.19 a foot. I believe its in the climbing rope family.

NPWfever - 16-4-2008 at 03:25 PM

I used some dacron line I had leftover from bridling my NPW.

SCREWYFITS - 16-4-2008 at 09:40 PM

NPW whee did you get the Dacron to build your npw?

WELDNGOD - 17-4-2008 at 03:42 PM

more specific please . what lb test line is it? 250? 500?

SCREWYFITS - 18-4-2008 at 01:16 AM

I am unsure of the test line Weldngod, the gentleman at Dom's is going to try and get that info for me, I just picked up more line today and had asked that very question... I'll give up any info I get...

My guess would be apx. 200lbs maybe less...

SCREWYFITS - 18-4-2008 at 08:32 PM

Yeah... being that it's in the bridal it doesn't have to take any where close the load as the main lines...
Good luck, and let me know your end results...
