BeamerBob - 14-4-2008 at 09:28 AM

Are they better than just paying $13 for an HQ set?

Bladerunner - 14-4-2008 at 02:27 PM

Obviously you have never felt the joy of using something that you have made yourself. DIY is a wonderful feeling !!!
If you have done a good job it's PRICELESS.

BeamerBob... I've got this OCD problem when it comes to my hobbies :puzzled: and when there is down time and I've pulled all my kites out and laid them all over the floor then I crawl all over them twisting, turning, squeezing and hugging them... I have to figure something else to do... so I made "Screwy Kite Killers"... I just enjoy making stuff myself...

Here is a guitar that I made.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/Screwyfits/ScrewyGuit...

and a Scuba tank I painted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/Screwyfits/TrueFireSC...

I could go on, but the point is, its not about the money its about being able to do & complete these projects and then be able to enjoy them after...

Thanx Bladerunner you explained it very well...

Just wait till I make a kite :o
I think my explanation is freaS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n me out... :o you know your an addict when...

I know what you mean about the diy thing. I can't bear to pay someone money to do something around the house that I can do myself. I also really enjoy improving on someone elses design. I love to make things better, or at least think of ways to do so. However, my free time is so hard to come by, that when I get some, I wouldn't spend 2-3 hours of it making something that is so readily, competently and cheaply available. My life is a swarm with practices, games, and tournaments for two baseball teams, along with private batting lessons. Then there are the drum and piano lessons to get the boys to. Add in all the normal household stuff and a fulltime job with the wife having job responsibilities beyond full time, and I have to pick and choose what I do myself and what is better to be discriminately picked up off the shelf.

Now to critique: Are your cords bungee or static line?

Nice paint job on the tank for sure!

Bladerunner - 15-4-2008 at 08:46 AM

Bob,

You have the BEST DIY job around !!! Looks like you are doing a heck of a job on Wexler and the rest of the family.

SCREWYFITS - 15-4-2008 at 09:53 AM

Hey Bob,

I understand, my schedule changes every 5 mo. and it gets like that for me sometimes also. Right now my job I'm worS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n weekends nights... 12hrs, so I work 3 days & get 3 days off then work 4 days & then get 4 off. So that being said I stay up late during the week when there is nothing to do and everyone else is sleep'n (shhhhh). So I get creative...

I hear ya on paying someone else to do something I can do myself. My dad brought me up that way.

Thanx for the complement on the tank...

No... the lines are static, I have some HQ's you talked about with bungee and I'm not much for the bungee's

BeamerBob - 15-4-2008 at 10:43 AM

Thanks on the dad compliment. I take the job seriously and have a really close relationship with both boys. I'd be a piddler if I had days off like that without someone to take somewhere all the time. Prolly have to have me a welder in the garage.

It has to be bad for me to turn the handles loose. Like turn em loose or I'm up up and away superman-style bad. In that case, I always felt the bungee has to help cushion the blow to the brake side of the kite and lines when it all hits at once with momentum. Maybe that is overkill in the end though. There may not be any real momentum to speak of.

torisspacedog - 18-4-2008 at 01:06 AM

Nice job on the Kite Killers as far as maybe being to long Its a whole lot easier to make them shorter than longer out in the feild.

That tank looks awsome it seems to jump out at you good work.

SCREWYFITS - 18-4-2008 at 01:11 AM

Thanx torisspacedog

As far as the length goes they have been shortened, the first time out I figured out the right length... to long was the plan for that reason.

Very nice paint work. I'd like to watch you do that to see the process of layers.

SCREWYFITS - 22-4-2008 at 03:57 PM

BeamerBob, Just U2Ued you...

Don't give me any Ideas Dlish... you know me I run with #@%$#! like that... The Aluminum bug I'm planning just might work for that idea, it has large enough frame tubing that I'll have surface to paint... then it won't get used cuz it'll look too good to mess up...
