One of the things I love about this interweb thing is the sometimes clever nicknames people give themselves in forums like these. I thought maybe it'd
be fun to find out where some of these names come from.
Mine's not terribly exciting. I'm an animator / designer and have lived my life on the Mac platform only to be ridiculed by my PC pals with the name
"Macboy". It stuck and I've used it ever since.
How about you?kitemaker4 - 16-4-2008 at 11:23 AM
I make kites and kitemaker, kitemaker1, kitemaker2, and kitemaker3 were already taken on hotmail.com so that is why I am kitemaker4.
Susan (npw goddess)archkiter - 16-4-2008 at 11:45 AM
hmmm... not to exciting for mine either....
I am an architect and I love to kite- mush the two together and you get me - archkiter!barnes - 16-4-2008 at 12:06 PM
I'm Ryan BARNES...most people just call me Barnes anyways... I know, lack of creativity.BeamerBob - 16-4-2008 at 12:15 PM
Man, I'm trying to think of how I came up with my name....... Let's see, my first name is Bob and uh um, well Gotthewind was rejected for some
reason. I only had 1 kite at the time, and it sorta rhymed so I went with it. I didn't know 1 kite wasn't enough. I will always like my Beamer in
any case.Rye - 16-4-2008 at 12:41 PM
I'm easy, Rye is short for Ryerson, my first name. And yes, I use Macs too WELDNGOD - 16-4-2008 at 12:48 PM
In the shipyard Other welders are always wanting me to fix their machine or come check it out , so I would go make some adjustments to their settings
and it would weld fine, one bossman started calling me the weldngod and it stuck.sunset-Jim - 16-4-2008 at 01:00 PM
When I first moved to Sunset Beach and was introduced to kiting, most everybody would forget my name and was calling me "that guy that lives at Sunset
Beach".NPWfever - 16-4-2008 at 01:55 PM
NPW=my first kite, and I really loved it. :D Oh and Mac all the way!!!
NO PEE CEE'S!!!!!art_lessing - 16-4-2008 at 02:00 PM
Art Lessing is the name of my music project
my real name is DanBladerunner - 16-4-2008 at 02:12 PM
I started out as Turkey, cause I just couldn't fly and was mad at myself !:smug:
Turns out I COULD fly I just couldn't surf. I discovered this at the Montana snowkite rodeo and took on Snowbird thinking snowkiting was the Bomb !!
Not much snow around here and my biggest stoke comes on Blades. I also fly a Blade and have a Blade ATB. Combine it with Kite Runner and you have
Bladerunner.
I only wish I had thought to sell them name Snowbird feral - 16-4-2008 at 03:19 PM
Emm I think I was called a feral child once by someone (meant to be an insult) but I liked the sound of the word and then when I looked up what it
meant it suited me down to the ground.
Feral- Reverted to wild state / untameable / undomesticated
:Dcrosshatch - 16-4-2008 at 03:29 PM
Whenever I draw with pen I use lots and lots of crosshatching.....
A creative outlet, I suppose, for nervous energy built up from not being able to kite as much as I'd like Todd - 16-4-2008 at 05:50 PM
See sig below :Dsolarix - 16-4-2008 at 09:26 PM
I like the sun/sky/planets/stars etc. Wanted something no one else had and I could use about every place I went so.... solar IX (9) the ninth planet
in an independent orbit as I have been routinely accused of being, since pluto was a real cute cartoon that wouldn't work.... solarix.
I know I have too much thought process I have my own orbit?
Jerrystrictlycarved - 16-4-2008 at 10:02 PM
mine is a downhill longboarding crew that i started in 2000 we were strictly into carving and not arial tricks hence the name. and that was the
nickname i was given so its sticked with me ever since.strictlycarved - 16-4-2008 at 10:03 PM
oh and macs are the best.Scudley - 17-4-2008 at 04:41 AM
Short for Scudley Doright. My brother, a great fan of Rocky and Bullwinkle, gave it to me. Could be because he thinks I look like a cop.

Macs are great, if you do not mind the limitations.BeamerBob - 17-4-2008 at 04:51 AM
Uh Oh. His name was Dudley. Are you putting a scud twist to it?Dax - 17-4-2008 at 05:51 AM
Dax is my nickname, and I couldn't tell you how it started because I don't remember, but it was some time about 9 years ago. My real name is Matt.
The name stuck and I use it as all my forum handles. It's short and easy to remember, and is rarely already chosen on forums. I used to be a local
DJ and performed under that name for a few years. I do have my nickname tattoo'd on me, hahaha.torisspacedog - 18-4-2008 at 02:19 AM
Tori Amos and her rocking song Spacedog I've been an avid fan of hers since 92. I just use it for all screennames That way I only have to remember 1flexiblade - 18-4-2008 at 08:09 AM
Seems that screen names tend to be two things jammed together that people like...hmmm... I think I may change my screen name to chcl8tNPbter.
Flexifoil+Blade=unoriginal.Bladerunner - 18-4-2008 at 09:21 AM
I bet if we asked Becky, she would say it stands for So Cudley :tumble:

I'll probably get the nod for the least creative but it helps me to remember who I am...Scudley - 18-4-2008 at 10:08 AM

Good one K2
She would be the only one. Most say I am about as cuddly as a cactus.
Alex are you that old?
SBeamerBob - 18-4-2008 at 11:22 AM
So Scudley, what are we going to do about you really being named after someone named "Dudley"Bladerunner - 18-4-2008 at 12:50 PM
Trust me Scudley gets to play Traffic Cop often enough at our local field to Qualify as a Dudley Do Right !! He's put in his time scudding to . So the
name fits. Definately better that So Cudley does gross213 - 18-4-2008 at 04:03 PM
My last name is Gross and I have always liked it, and I am a truck driver and the number of my first truck I ever drove was 213 and since every time I
put just Gross in for anything it was already in use so I just started putting 213 behind it .:flaming:Lobo - 18-4-2008 at 04:40 PM
I don't have a good answer. I've just used Lobo for a long time on many forums.
But, I find it interesting that now that I'm getting into power kiting I view the wind differently. Always have wanted low to no wind for powered
paragliding and RC ariplanes. Now, I want more wind.
And even more interesting.....go to this webpage of Lobo (not mine) and move your mouse over the trees in the lower right of the frame and see if the
wind blows. Let them die down and do it again. I didn't find this till my interest in kiting. Hmmmmm! I still like the name Lobo....the gray
wolf......an "old" gray wolf....ha!
I get all "puffy" when I see a flag flyin straight outLobo - 18-4-2008 at 08:41 PM

Lobo :singing:popeyethewelder - 18-4-2008 at 11:46 PM
After leaving a company that supplied steel arch supports for mining, I went to work for a short time in a foundry....at this stage of my career my
back was shot, and so I wore a weight training belt everyday for work, as there was a lot of heavy lifting involved, at the start of each shift, I
would breath in and do my belt up....one of the lads said ehh he looks like popeye after eating his can of spinnage....after a while the management
realised I was a qualified welder...derrrrrrrrrrr, that was on my CV....anyway, I started getting all the repair work to do to keep the machinery
running, and all the welding jobs that needed doing....the lads then called me Popeyethewelder, everyone had silly names there, is was quite funny,
there was also Jonnypigface Picker, Ray Ticklemtyler, John the Baptist etc etc. I liked my name as among all the foundry workers, I felt as at least
everyone knew I was a welder....I have always been proud of that....
I have had other jobs along the way too, I had my own Pub/bar for a few of years, was a fitter/lathe turner for 8 years....as said earlier worked in
the mining industry for 9 years, but the last 10 years, I have been a structural plater/welder....
I am a plater/welder by trade, and any plater would hate to be called a welder, its an insult to them, but thats never bothered me...unless you are in
the trade most people dont know what a plater is, and so if I had been called popeyetheplater....most folk would I thought I had something to do with
crockery lol....no I like popeyethewelder, and tbh, its the only nickname I have ever had, and is only used in the kiting fraternity....
I like to think of my job title as an International Fusion Engineer:singing:
I am just Carl to everyone else.SCREWYFITS - 19-4-2008 at 12:17 AM
Well...
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...
There is a motto that goes with my name it's "If It Fits... Screw It":puzzled:
As for the name, all my buddies called me screwy... because well... I was a lil screwy, probably still am...
I always went over the edge with everything we did, kinda got a few screws loose...
Everything I get into I go all out... and I seem to get into everything...
I'm an artiest by nature and designed a screw logo and started a t-shirt line in "94" and called it Screwy Fits, meaning... fits as in your clothes
(gear, threads, wear...) and screwy as in a state of mind...:tumble:
My name is Dirk and a lot of my buddies started to call me Diggler after the movie "Boogie Nights" :o (its just my stage name) :frog::wow:.
All in all, I'm known by most as Screwy...
THE END:singing:
Great topic by the way...ripsessionkites - 19-4-2008 at 03:28 AM
i'm also on the non-creative side too. my good riding partner (dirtslide) of 10+ years always quoted "what a great session we had, you were ripping
out there"
so in 1999 I started a kite distribution business, and we're still ripping to this day: Ripsession Kites
My real name is Richard ... but sometimes I steal my son's name: Ricardo (see avatar). If you see pics of NABX 2008 with the racing plate KC88, that
would be me.
