What will be the new kites

DenisLaMenace - 25-4-2008 at 06:56 PM

Just wondering what features new kite generations will have. what is coming next ? what would you like to have ?

- will foil have a more arc shape
- will LEI have an auto pump feature
- will have a feature to unwind lines will the kite flying, so launching in a very narrow spot or directly in water will be possible
- 3 lines
- less bridles

what are you opinions?

I want one of those auto pilot gizmos that fly the ship moving kites

Of course I was expecting a jet pac about now . That's what they promised me back in grade scool ! :duh:

I'll settle for less bridle :wink2:

Blade, What is the scoop on your new kite? I have not heard you talk about it yet. Where is the review?

If you mean the 7m Pulse? I did a write up on it for our local forum here

The Psycho's are both in the mail. Mine to Kiteboarder2B and Tridudes to me. :ticking::ticking:

I would like to see a return to the reel in bar, IDK why we left that, it was an AWESOME idea. You could launch if you only had 15 feet on the beach, just pump it, walk out, then let your lines out. And if you crashed it, and you drifted and your lines went slack, you could reel them in to tension them, and relaunch, then wind them back out.

We need to talk to some kite companies

What I would like to have is de-power with handles or a bar set up that would give the handling of handles and depower.
I curious why you think a foil would benefit from having more of an arc shape. My first thoughts are it would only increase drag.
I think what you will see coming for foil kites in the near future is:
Higher aspect ratios for greater speed and power for a given size.
Small changes in foil design at the leading edge to maximize internal pressure. This will solve the luffing problem high A/R foils tend to have.
Loads of cheap kites from China

Scudley,

My Pulse will fly on handles ! You are welcome to try it :duh:
The speed was high aspect and flew on handles. So your Dream kite kind of exists :?:
I'll try it ......... right after you :tumble:

My Blade seems to have an adjustment that will increase the curvature of the kite. There are adjustment knots not mentioned in the instructions. They are on the cross bridles. I haven't messed with them yet, but will fiddle around and see if I can tell a difference and like it.

Probably very poorly ?
The manual says you can do it but doesn't go into detail.
That's why you get to go 1st :wink2:

BeamerBob - 29-4-2008 at 10:17 AM

NPW Nick said he wanted to try it. He's not afraid. If we can't get him, the Thrasher could step in.

Isn't what the Pulse2 is, more arc than a speed or psycho, so it can turn faster ? and eat gusts better ? and provide an equivalent feeling to tube kites

of course, solving luffing problem of the speed would be a great improvment

Sthrasher38 - 29-4-2008 at 03:21 PM

I'll do it!! No Fear Baby.:borg:

would this make sense on a depower kite.

acampbell - 30-4-2008 at 01:55 PM

I'm not sure I'd want the bulk and weight. figure-8 on a bar is so fast and easy to wind and un-wind. Faster than a little crank.

BeamerBob - 30-4-2008 at 03:53 PM

Angus finally got it through to me how HE winds his figure 8s. I was holding the handle on the kite killers and wrapping the line around each end of the handle. I would get a kite from Angus and not be able to unwind it without twists. He winds the figure 8 holding the bottom of the handle and you only wrap around the top of the handle. Much more efficient with the same end result. Faster on and off.
