Summer road trips

Taper123 - 26-4-2008 at 06:38 PM

Ok... I know gas keeps going up, but all of us love our kites and the toys that go with them. Wether it's a short drive to the beach, or going many miles for a buggy, kiteboard or ATB vacation I'm sure we will all wander someplace this summer in search of wind and the perfect surface.

Wife and I are talking about another trip to La Pesca (Mexico) in June. Looks like several buggiers will be meeting up then as well. Anyone else wanna go?

Where are you going to head this summer?

I go out to long island every summer, looking like just a week this year though.... Hoping to meet up with Ryan (Barnes) there for a spot of kitesurfing. And I have lightly touched on the topic of getting down to Utah and meet up w/ Dman and any other kiters in the area. Get some time in the buggy!!!

Sunset Beach BABY :tumble:

Archkiter has set up a very good page on beaches and spots to ride in Oregon all down the coast .:thumbup:

At one time she was looking at getting a traveling crew together to hit them all. Promoting Wind power along the way :saint:

To trip on down the Oregon Coast kiting all the beaches would be nice. If she gets it together I still may make it for a week or so of the trip :cool2:

I'm so pissed!!! My dad is a professional photographer (so am I, u2u me if you want to buy pics, :D) and he runs a photo tour to Oregon right at the start of my summer vacation. But I can't go cuz its a business thing. I WANNA KITE I WANNA KITE!!!!:sniff:

I'm going to Nova Scotia to buggy in a few weeks, then in September I would love to go to the Sunset Beach event, where is this page that Archkiter has up? I know I'll be in Vegas in November, but without gear.

Here is the page of Oregon Beaches that I out together...

I think that my buggy trip down the coast will have to wait until next year. I have a lot of family stuff that I am dealing with right now and I haven't had the time to organize it....there is a possibility that if things settle down it could happen later in the summer, but right now I cannot commit :(

I do still plan on spending lots of time buggying at the coast and made plans to go to the Oregon Dunes for the 4th of July. :)

I'll probably just be hitting up the more local places 2 hours away and such. Winter time comes the road trips up to NY and snowkiting every step of the way.

texas sounds fun!

So I rented a house on the beach for a week in St. Augustine, Florida for the week of May 17th until the 24th. This is a favorite place of mine to go for a long buggy ride. Miles of uncrowded, hardpacked and wide beach in Anastasia State park.

Howdy Taper.... any good spots you know of in texas? I'm in Austin, by the way.

google earth shows Big Lake, Texas in the west has a big dry lake bed.... was thinking of making that trip. I also really want to get to the flats at Laguna Madre.

Is it a bad idea to kite on salt flats?

Taper123 - 30-4-2008 at 12:26 PM

The flats at S. Padre are supposed to be really good. A bunch of us will be at San Luis Pass on the west end of Galveston this weekend for Cinco de Mayo.

I've never made it to the desert... but everyone seems to love the dry lakes. I found the big sand flats at La Pesca to be about the same distance for me... yet are close to the beach and adds the adventure of going to another country. Not to mention you can kiteboard, buggy, or just chill on the beach or river.
