How come my posts say "Tandem Passenger"?
I'm no tandem Passenger. I freestyle and Race. Please Helppkf - 10-5-2008 at 02:53 AM
Just a post ranking system. The terms are just for fun and will change as you post more.stevep - 10-5-2008 at 08:52 AM

ya, just say hi to everyone as they post or whatever and you could be one of the 16 year old Kite know it all peolple that have been kiting for 6
months. Then you can give advice like you may know what your talking about to someone who may actually think you know it all because of your post
ranking and get someone hurt. That sounds like a lot fun and a great thing to promote.

<--- trying to up my post ranking!! Sthrasher38 - 23-5-2008 at 03:19 PM
brex, The post ranking is for fun. And I don't think anyone on here would promote anyone else getting hurt and I know of no one, even if they have
been flying for years that claims to know it all.:moon:pkf - 24-5-2008 at 05:06 AM
I will gladly access suggestions regarding rank names and levels. Here is what we currently have... suggestions?
Tandem Passenger = 1
Short Reacher = 10
Long Reacher = 50
2 Wheeler = 100
Freestyler = 250
Kite Traction Freak = 500
Kite Traction Know-It-All = 1000
Kite Traction Guru = 1500
We could also completely do away with the ranking system. Yes/no?
BTW: PKF is intended as an information rich community resource. We do not recommend posting for the sake of increasing one's rank position. We want
folks to enjoy this community to its fullest, but please remember... quality over quantity is appreciated.bbrex - 25-5-2008 at 08:23 AM
Absolutely! I agree with PKF
Quality Content, Quality Experienced Advice. I know people don't intend to hurt others, but for the newbe to the sport and to this forum the rank
names and levels give unjustified experience levels. If only in fun.
Doing away with this ranking system could save some un-needed injuries possibly. After reading some of the Posts/advice and hairbraind ideas, I've
seen on this forum by some of the members I would not fly or buggy within 10 miles of them!

I agree with brex on that one. When I first came to this forum almost 2 years ago I thought just that. The ones with higher ranks were more
experienced. I was wrong. Do away with it? yea. it couldn't hurt. at least to the newb it would make everyone look the same then then could decide
where the most experienced info comes from. Imo even though I have good advise to share I am in no way a Guru. I am just a chatter box with to much
time and questions on my hands. But I do love this forum It got me started in kiting and helps me greatly to stay well informed and interested in
kiting. And I have lot's of friends here also. And at times is the only way to stay in touch. Thanks.BeamerBob - 27-5-2008 at 04:16 AM
Maybe ditch the ranking system but keep the post number in place. We already show the registered date so that along with post count could give some
indication of the quality of info from that person. The real ranking comes from repeatedly giving out good helpful information from your own
experiences. That is hard to quantify or fairly represent. I know some of the best advice I have gotten comes from members with a far lower post
count than I have.furbowski - 27-5-2008 at 07:43 AM
keep the ranking system, I say.
it's all in good fun.
but maybe put the ranking criteria and a disclaimer on the home page, somewhere near the bottom, along with an encouragement to check each other's
posts with a reasonably critical mind, i.e. with one's personal bullsh*t detector turned on to the max....
Like when you're flying a new kite, bigger than anything you've ever flown, in winds which you're already a bit nervous flying the biggest you have so
far. Had that experience today, moving up from a Ace 5 to a Blade IV 6.5, and I can tell you it sharpens the mind marvelously, and it seems (imho)
easy to recognize when someone is writing about it online. The opposite of that recognition is one's personal bullsh*t detector.
Another alternative is to introduce some kind of web 2.0 ish kudos / thumbs up or down rating. It can indeed turn into a popularity contest, but it
could possibly work as a more controlled way to give input into the rankings.
a couple different viewpoints for the mix, but really, if it ain't broke, why fix?
