dgkid78 - 23-5-2008 at 02:28 PM

had my Montana out and just noticed it has a bunch of tiny tears along the back of the kite going vertical. I know there is kite repair tape out there and i really want to take my kite out tomorrow. Any good ideas on what other kinda tape i can get maybe at Home depot or sporting store that is just as good????? :barf:

Funwithwinds.com is based in Lawrence, MA. You can call and check if they have Ripstop Nylon repair tape. I drove there last month and picked up a foot of that tape for my (first ever) kite tear. It's very easy to apply and works very well.

sail repair tape is ok available at the likes of west marine or othe boating/ sailing supply

ripstop tape from kite stores

best is to make your own with 3m 9640 and your choice of ripstop nylon material much better adhesive than ripstoptape and u can match colors

Forgive my ignorance, but what is this and where can I find it?

dgkid78 - 24-5-2008 at 10:15 AM

I looked it up and all i could find is that it's that tape that looks like dots that they stick to your body when you have a heart bleep bleep machine :megan:or somethin connected at hospital. LOL thats all i got out of that when i searched.

9460

found place in la,ca pm me and get u info

SCREWYFITS - 24-5-2008 at 11:23 PM

I think its spray adhesive made by 3M and the adhesive strength or can # is 9460

Well I just checked the 3M web site and the 9460 is some sort of medical patch... but with a lil research I'd recommend the spray adhesive 6096...

young jedis

http://www.vikingtapes.co.uk/3m/pdf/9460.pdf

its also undr heading VHB tapes i found a place under $20 a roll its double stick tape i stick it to ripstopnylon and viola! rip stop tape

after setting ive had fabric failure befor tape failed

its been used for while found the 411 on some kite forums

lots of high end racing sails are built with the likes a seam is stronger not sewn holes from sewing are weak spot in sail

lunch box i could make you some RSN tape and give it to since you are local

dgkid78 - 25-5-2008 at 11:29 AM

No wonder i kept finding medical tabs, i was looking up 9640 instead of 9460 LOL . biglou it's your fault. you typed it backwards in first post.

I use this stuff called "tedlar" is super strong clear sail cloth repair tape!

NPWfever - 25-5-2008 at 03:25 PM

I got double sided seam tape at a fabric store, so just put a matching color ripstop on one side, stick it to the kite, and BAM! :D

biglou13 - 25-5-2008 at 07:19 PM

not sure if fabric store stuff is that great , but you got the idea

the 3m stuff is pretty high tech

but give it test on a sample

or if you guys want some ill pick it up and get it to you

Eli whe u getting tedlar from

USA_Eli_A - 26-5-2008 at 09:53 AM

COASTAL KITES sells it...I sell it by the foot...How much do you need?

I will check to see who the supplier is and post there info...

powerzone - 27-5-2008 at 12:09 PM

Tedlar 18 is what we use... its Aerospace tape so its a bit pricey, but far superior adhesion, super thin and strong.

if you need to Sew thru a taped section, the ripstop is better and won't clog the needle and bobbin pickup.
