Do you fly with an Ipod? Cordless? Motorokr?

beachrights - 15-6-2008 at 05:25 PM

The reason I ask is because I always find the damn cord gets in the way or my earbuds fall out when I jump. I have tried several brands and sizes but they all sooner or later fall out. There is nothing worse then having to land my kite to reposition my earbuds!

I love to fly to music- in fact I have not flown if I forgot my MP3 player!

Has anyone tried the Motorokr bluetooth headphones? My cell phone has a music player and I might go that route if I can get some feedback. I do not want to dump $50 on a crappy system.

Ohhhh Good Question I fly with my Ipod all the time, can't go without it. I have tried also many buds. LOL I just return them if i have issues. I dropped $100 bucks on the BOSE but returned them the next day because they kept falling out. I saw some NIKE sport ones i need to try out. Around the ear stuff. OH when i used the original buds that came with IPOD, A good thing to do is run the wire inside your clothes either onto your armband or under to your pocket in pants/shorts. so that if the buds fall out you don't accidentially run them over and snap wire. (I did that) when i do that i can continue to fly cause the buds only fell to my neck line. IPod have long wire so make sure the excess is above your harness so you can stretch and turn without yanking out buds.

beachrights - 15-6-2008 at 05:52 PM

I think I MUST go bluetooth! I already have run the cord through every piece of clothing! forget about trying to wear them with a harness! Its just a nightmare!

Hell, yesterday I had to land my 5.0 and retie my watershoe and I tied my headphone cord into my shoelaces!!:o That was the last straw!!

I need some creative suggestions- I really want to hear if anyone has tried the Motorokrs

dgkid78 - 15-6-2008 at 05:58 PM

LOL my bad. Sorry dude. I never had a problem. so figured i would mention

NPWfever - 15-6-2008 at 06:04 PM

Maybe those like individual headphones, that like wrap around your ear, they aren't buds, but they would stay on for sure!

beachrights - 15-6-2008 at 06:35 PM

I know it sound stupid- how the hell can you tie a headphone cord into your shoelace?!

Well, when you are kneeling on your handles and have to keep looking up at your kite which is unweighted and pray it does not power up while you are trying to tie your shoe in 20 mph winds its easy!! LOL!
Oh yeah- did I mention it was a pansh! Quirky as hell on the ground!

PHREERIDER - 15-6-2008 at 06:43 PM

i arrive jacked in and usually remain that way for the entire session even on the water.

ipod shuffle

custom water unit

-silicone tip buds, tube box, harvested leg cuff from wetsuit makes a expandable carrier

skull candy really hold up nice shrink tube the plug for longer line protection,

random repeat

this may help

I had the same problem - would drive me f-in crazy - just cruising along in the buggy then one of the earphones or buds comes out just a little bit and you have to focus all your attention on trying to get it back in wearing gloves while controlling the kite with the other hand.

PROBLEM SOLVED - look up "MP3 wireless Headset" on ebay

MP3 player earphone combo - no wires - the drawbacks: no shuffle and only about 2gigs of memory. The trade off with the amount of music you can store compared to having to stop every 5 min to adjust the stupid headphones is totally worth it though.

i've never had problems with my buds when using a full face helmet, sometimes they do get loose when going over bumpy terrain. Solution wrap the cord around the ear once.

jockeys - 16-6-2008 at 05:44 AM

yeah, I use one of the little shuffles that clips. I wear skullcandy Hesh 'phones (they only have a 10 inch cord) and then clip the ipod to the neck of my shirt.

no cord (hardly) to get tangled on anything!

PHREERIDER - 16-6-2008 at 06:49 AM

i haven't had much trouble with lines.

skull candy buds rarely come out,..... the wet set has to be removed it is amazing how well they work even under water. the water set doesn't have the alot of heavy bass like the skull buds but close enough for their extreme durability

The ipod is the best mp3 out there hands down. The ear buds on the other hand that come with the ipod are S***. I have tried many different types as my other hobby is extremely highend audio gear or audiophile whatever you like. What I finally found was the Shure E5C which will mold itself for a custom fit in your ear. I have never had these fall out or had a problem with the wire I run that through my shirt and out my sleeve to my ipod in its nike arm band. Get ready though these earbuds are spendy about 500.00, but you get what you pay for with these earbuds you can have the airplane right next to the engine and guess what you will hear crystal clear music and not a jet engine. I didn't believe the company, but I tried it and they were right. Plus the earbuds have two seperate speakers per ear bud 1 for mids and highs and 1 for subwooofer with built in electronic croosover.

Dang!!!! O.O that sounds freaking awesome John! I'll definitely have to do a bit of searching on those... just basically to drool but not buy obviously :)

Drool Factor: 10/10 :o

PHREERIDER - 16-6-2008 at 09:49 AM

the wet set is by H2O audio for the $30 and this will last 2 seasons with no care handling

the skull candy earbuds for $12 last maybe 2yrs with careless abuse.

pro seinnhauser for the home head gear....the shure wow how sweet is that. block out the jet noise that is tight.

i got a set of B&O and the sweat after 6months ruined them. the SC buds sound such better any way.

JOJO1 that rack of kites is nice.... what is your "go to" kite in 15-20?

My over the ear clip type ones have never fallen out for me. My problem is protection. I've recently bought an ipod touch and although it's been proven to be really tough i don't want to risk it. So i'm thinking of buying one of these:

http://www.caseclub.com/ipod_case_i1030.htm

I'm just checking the ipod touch fits in it. The company also does all these ( http://www.caseclub.com/ipod_case.htm ) cases - all waterproof/ drop proof etc. Downside with the ipod touch case is that the screen is protected by 0.5mm of flexible plastic, which i find utterly pointless.

JoJo1 - 16-6-2008 at 12:13 PM

pea I wouldn't worry to much about damage to your ipod. The reason for this is that apple has one of the best electronic warranties that I have ever seen. If fact I always buy the extended coverage for all of my apple products and I have had the tech guys at the apple store tell me point blank that right before the item is to run out of warranty to go drop it on the concrete and bring it in for a warranty exchange. I have done this several times and have even been given the next gen model, because they no longer had the model I currently had. I don't worry about the music, because it is all back up on my computers hard drive and double external hard drives.

Goldendmd as to your question about my go to JoJo in 15-20 is a great question, but it depends on where I am at. My home field in Oklahoma is not huge so I would be on a 6 or 7 meter JoJo, but if I am at a beach or dry lake it could be as big as a 10 meter. This though is for the highly experienced pilot. I have been flying race kites since 1996 and I live for pushing all limits in a buggy so those sizes are not something I would recommend.

Sweat will not damage the Shure brand ear buds as these are what music stars use on stage so they built to withstand the sweat. I have owned these for around two years and I use them in all of my activites from workout, yard work, and extreme sport activites. I also sweat more than most lol my black libre seat is usually white with sweat after a day of fun. I wouldn't worry about sweat with any of the Shure brand headphones.

Shure has many models starting around 100.00 I went for the top model, because sound quality is a big plus for me I like to be able to hear everything exactly as the producer of the music intended us to hear.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the insight on the JOJO's and the shure.

both will require more seek and find info sessions

pea - 16-6-2008 at 12:41 PM

i bought it off ebay. i assume the extra £50 you pay in apple shops is to do with the warranty.

JoJo1 - 16-6-2008 at 12:54 PM

pea you got it right brother. That extra 50.00 bought you another 2 yrs of full exteneded coverage. You can check the experation date of your warranty on the apple.com website by plugging your serial number off of the apple product.

right on Goldenmd do your research for sure on everything. I will put my seal of approval on both products. I have used and abused the shures for 2 yrs now and I have been flying JoJo's since the 90's and you couldn't pay me to fly anything else as others have tried.
good winds to all

Thanks a lot JoJo, looked it up and i have about a year left on my warranty. sorry if this is a bit off topic. does apple replace the ipod if it has scratches or something silly like that?

JoJo1 - 16-6-2008 at 02:19 PM

pea no they will not replace for scratches it has to be a non working unit, but like I said over the years of buying apple products I have had probably 10 different techs at different stores tell me when the units warranty is about to expire to drop it fairly hard on the concrete so the unit is not working and bring it in for warranty exchange. The plus with apple is that if you have a apple store in your city there is no wait for exchange simply go online make your appointment with a apple genius and go into the store for your replacement. No sending the unit off paying postage and then waiting for a new unit. I have never even had them reallly mess with the brocken unit they have just handed me a brand new unit. You don't have to make an appointment, but I recommend it as our apple stores are usually slammed with people and making the appointment just saves a lot of time. Also on the plus side if they have come out with a new unit and no longer have warranty replacement units in your style they will give you the next gen. I broke my 60 gb and they no longer had any so they gave me the 80 gb model of course I didn't argue with lol

Thanks so much for telling me this :D. I'll make a date in my ipod calender - 'drop me on concrete'.

dgkid78 - 16-6-2008 at 03:32 PM

Oh I forgot about these. I got Oakley "Thumps" Sunglasses with Mp3 player on the legs. the ear buds swing down from the leg and you control volume and shuffle from legs. Completley forgot i had these ever since i got an ipod 2 years ago. I used them alot when i used to run in the afternoon. Don't even remember the capacity. I remember though they are pricey. it was an impulse. but maybe you can get them used on ebay

csa_deadon - 24-6-2008 at 06:41 AM

You may want to try these, Sennheiser PMX 70 Sport Earphones.
cost anywhere from 35.00 to 50.00. Mine haven't come out yet.
