So I took the Beamer out today...

_____ - 16-6-2008 at 04:46 PM

and had a blast! I had been itching to get this thing in the air and even though we didnt have alot of wind in my neighborhood, I decided to hit up Mount Trashmore here in my area.

Wind was pretty good about 8-10 gusting to about 15 I'd say. I was out there about 3 hours and still didnt want to come home...lol

I got some good practice in today though. Got the hang of it pretty quickly and can only compare it to the Symphony of NicS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s that I flew. Since the Beamer is a little bigger it turned a little slower (not much) but was very smooth. Dont know if that has anything to do with the 4 line vs. 2 line either.

I went with my girlfriend and after I flew it about 30 minutes she wanted a go at it. She actually picked up on it pretty quickly too but after getting lifted about 3' in the air and flown about 6' she decided to call it a day. Gotta say, the kite killers did their job when she landed though

Im looking to get back there thursday afternoon though if anyone else in interested

dude you will like my beach much better, it's flat , soft , desolate, and lots of onshore wind especially in the evening. check out iwindsurf.com for real time wind speed in our area or VA aviation weather and as always call me if ya want to know what the weather is out there. weekends comin ,watcha doin?

_____ - 16-6-2008 at 04:57 PM

Not a damn thing yet ;-)

Thanks for the link too. Ive been searching for somthing like that for us.

WELDNGOD - 16-6-2008 at 04:59 PM

hey, are you using the brakes? or are you just pulling on one side or the other? heres how it works for slo turn just pull. for harder turn put brake on side you want to turn to. for really hard, fast turns pull and put on brake on the side you want to turn to. sometimes its really hard to use brakes alone.

_____ - 16-6-2008 at 05:01 PM

I was just pulling today, no breaks but Ill try that next time out

WELDNGOD - 16-6-2008 at 05:01 PM

i got another called weather underground and then there's ikitesurf. com, i got a few bookmarked.

_____ - 16-6-2008 at 05:03 PM

Much better than using this http://www.wavy.com/Global/category.asp?C=108563&nav=men...

WELDNGOD - 16-6-2008 at 05:07 PM

if you use brakes it will turn on a dime, if ya just pull it makes a big circle. if you use brakes you can ladderwalk the kite up and down in the window. heck you need to come to the beach, i will teach ya what i know so far. wanna ride a buggy? landboard? wheelchair? just jokin ,sthrasher will have to teach us all how to do that.( how ya doin sthrash? hope your gettin better:thumbup:) )

_____ - 16-6-2008 at 07:08 PM

Buggy, landboard yes sir. Wheelchair... not so much. If the wind is good this weekend man I dont foresee anything keeping me in the house :)

So instead of pulling the side I want to turn to I just pull the brakes on that side?

WELDNGOD - 16-6-2008 at 07:20 PM

yeah, but it takes a bit. I'll let ya try my rage 4.7w/ aoa kit

clintopher - 17-6-2008 at 03:01 AM

One of these days I want to get up with you guys. This weekend is booked, but as far as i know next weekend doesn't have anything going on. Hopefully Weldngod's car hasn't be set on fire by then.

_____ - 17-6-2008 at 05:23 PM

So I tried the brake turns today just like you described Donny and it turned much faster ;) Also learned to scudd very quicky :) theres about 20' of freshly turned over sand at the beach right now.

WELDNGOD - 17-6-2008 at 05:27 PM

told ya

silvereaglekiter - 17-6-2008 at 06:19 PM

i jest came in from a 2 hour session with my 6.5 m. Left rite many 15 foot furrows on the beach. I never knew I can park my PL Pepper sweet

_____ - 17-6-2008 at 06:48 PM

So Im thinking of picking up a Symphony 1.4 for my girlfriend Nick. Whaddaya think. Shes 5'2" and only about 115lbs. My Beamer pulled hre around too much and she says she doessnt have the strength to hold the kite and pull the brakes while its in the air.

dgkid78 - 17-6-2008 at 06:57 PM

Thats a fun kite!! :D

silvereaglekiter - 17-6-2008 at 06:59 PM

Symphony's are a good toy any time

P.S. I shorten the lines on mine by 1/2 sun during a lull in the wind it dusent pull quite as much but still jest as fast:D

_____ - 17-6-2008 at 07:02 PM

So a 1.4 wouldnt be too small? I just know how your 2.2 pulled me around so I know what it would do to her...lol.

BeamerBob - 17-6-2008 at 07:21 PM

In my opinion the 1.4 is too zippy for a beginner. You have to really be on top of it. The 2.2 is a little slower to turn but 115 lbs can have a blast with it in sane winds like up to 15 or maybe 18. My 9 year old Jared can handle my 2.2 fine but the 1.4 is a little frustrating for him. In this case, the bigger kite is a little better for someone to learn on. Still small enough not to hurt anyone with some sense, but big enough to have good stability and give you a workout too.

silvereaglekiter - 17-6-2008 at 07:25 PM

mine is an older 2.7 ' the 1.4 or 1.8 should be fine  Hq,s new Symphony Speed 2.5 looks sweeeeet:lol:

_____ - 17-6-2008 at 07:41 PM

Ok so the 1.8 it is then :D Thanks Bob!

She had a blast flying the Beamer but wants a kite with less power so I thought it would be good to start her out on a smaller 2 liner. She had alot of fun and is really looking foward to a hobby we both can enjoy. I dont know if this is a good thing or not...lol. When I told her I was going out to fly a kite the other day she just kinda gave me this look like "seriously Jason.... a kite?" After being there though she changed her mind fast and got really into it and excited about kites.

OreBeamer - 17-6-2008 at 07:52 PM

I'd stay with 4 lines. A 1.4m or 2.0m would be fine. The thing is knowing when the wind is too much and not flying. Besides you'll want it to be a 4 line if she drops out and you need a high wind kite ;)

BeamerBob - 17-6-2008 at 07:58 PM

You wouldn't believe how many times I have gotten that look. You fly kites? As a hobby? That was the highlight of your weekend? It's your favorite thing to do at the beach? I"ve heard these lines from many, picturing a diamond kite with a ribbon tail. Then I get them out with me and they see the kite lift me gently off the ground without me asking it to or shoot me across the ground on my feet scudding. Some that have joined me said after getting that grin on their face that when I said I was going to go fly a kite they were thinking, "wouldn't stamp collecting be a little more exciting"? Now they get it.

I thought about that too but I think for the time being she would be happier with a 2 line since shes having trouble with the breaks. I had a a ton of fun flying Nicks Symphony so Im sure she'll be happy with a 2 liner.

WELDNGOD - 17-6-2008 at 08:14 PM

ya ever had some moron call it a "lame little kite"?(4.7 rage)

No, it's definitely not funny. Did you ever get a chance to talk to that city worker's boss? Hopefully she's squelched here before too long.

WELDNGOD - 18-6-2008 at 04:48 AM

The boss man says he has known her for years and it ain't her. so now Im thinkin maybe this fishin dork that was out there that day( only saw like 5 people all day).

_____ - 18-6-2008 at 02:47 PM

We can handle him too ;)
