dgkid78 - 17-6-2008 at 07:24 PM

Is it me or is Ebay getting Scarce with Power kites? I remember only couple months ago when shopping for my kite, i would see so many different options on used kites. M lucky if i find a chicken loop now. C'mon people I wanna see "claims" that they have been used only twice and so on blah blah LOL. M sorry M just miserable cause i blew a cell on my Montana. well i dunno if it's called the cell. it's the nylon strip inbetween the 2 skins . it tore at the seam. taking it to Mom's tomorrow see if she can fix it. she a pro on the machine. :barf: damm and it's only one i got. funds are low until Xmas. Going Cross country to Europe in 2 weeks. :D

Or power kiting is becoming more popular and people are buying kites more readily? :puzzled:

I feel like better deals are often found on this forum than on eBay. Buying from PKF members seems safer too because I wouldn't expect a PKF member to misrepresent their kites. Also, I feel like prices on eBay get driven too high by people who don't know what they are bidding on or something. I bid on a couple of smaller Ozone Access kites a week ago but they were 1st gen kites and looked pretty used and got way too expensive.

I have seen some kites up on eBay lately though. Not a lot. I find that it is best to search for specific brands and models rather than "power kites".

That 12m EVO that Blake has listed sure looks like a lot of kite for the $$ if you want a BIG kite.

THe strip between the two skins is usually the profile (rib) of the kite. Depending on where it is and if it's on an open cell... you can roll both tips up to that cell then turn the kite inside out. That will expose the damaged area and allow you to inspect it and decide the best way to repair it. Sail tape, adding a patch, reinforcement, etc etc etc...

Several of my kites have come from PKF members. Have not recieved a bad one yet.

I feel much better buying from forum members (PKF and Skypilot). My Rage was new off eBay, the Access new from Colorado Kite Force, Pansh from Pansh. I think most everything else came from forums including the LEIs I recently found new homes for through the forums (this one).

Trouble is, we only have one local shop selling kites and he only sells Flysurfers - which is great, just out of my price range...especially since I'l still learning what I need.

I had a kite repaired by a local tailor who took the time to look into kites and make sure he used the right material (threads). It was a simple restitch but he still took the time to make sure it was right.
