Pansch ACE 8m Depower Mode

bloah - 23-6-2008 at 04:24 PM

After long past two weeks of no wind I decided to get back into kiting by moding my ACE 8m. I want to put an UDS (Universal Depower System) Following this mode.

Anyhow, what do you guys think? Is it doable? Anyone done anything similar to that?

P.S. Also I was thinking is it possible of making a closed cell ACE 8 m out of open celled version? any thoughts?

it says in your link works better with lower a/r if im not mistaken the ace has a higher a/r aspect ratio

keep me updated with your project.

I think yes it's very possible to make it a closed cell foil, do it flysurfer style though, cover all but like 6 vents, and then put a zip on the TE and it would work fine. And the Ace is a really bad starter for a depower kite, its a cascade bridle, but I've seen it done.

I have a 6m ace I looked at doing a de power for a moment the cascade bridle really makes it hard it might almost be easier to re work the whole thing. But I have never done that so... I don't really know. It isn't like a uturn....

I know powerzone was going to try a depower mod on a 5m ace awhile back. I don't know if he ever did or if it worked, but i think it would be a good idea to u2u him to see how he did.
I know a guy did a mod on a 2m ace here local a few months back. i will send him a email and see how it is working out for him. His mod was easy to do, but extreme to the design and structure of the kite, so I will check on how its holding up.

the ACE 5m depowered pretty good... we got 90% done then had so much to do we haven't touched it since...

it was a bit of work to get it set up... made maybe 15 lines or so as well as the mixer.

it may take some wing tip rings and lines for stability.... maybe this summer or when things slow down a bit we can play with it more.

How did you deal with the cascade bridles? I am interested in trying this w/ my 8m, I need a decent open cell depower in that size for the snowkiting season this year, in that size as well.

Haven't you kind of got that range covered with the 11m S-arc ?

Yeah, but I'm looking for an open cell foil as well, if I am going to be out on the snow, in the cold, dealing with an Arc is kinda a pain, I don't mind it when im on land, but snow is cold, especially with that kite, I either need to sew in a zipper, or buy a battery pump. Whereas an open cell depower, I can just wind out those lines, tug and launch/ There are guys up on Dillon that open the kite, weight down the TE, and then skate away unwinding their lines, it takes them about a minute to set up and to. It's beautiful to watch :tumble: The S-Arc is like 15 mins, not to mention the relaunch is far easier with an open cell foil. And I'm a mega DIY guy, and I love kiting, to be able to DIY my 8m into a depower would be awesome, and on the snow I like to just JUMP and that Ace will boost me nice.

I am giving it a shot today, and I figured out how to convert it from a cascade to traditional bridle, then toss a mixer on, I will document it and help anyone through it that wants help. Hope it works! :D

Ok, so the entire bridle is now changed over to a standard bridle, now I need some help with the mixer, I have A's B's C's and brakes. What goes where, what size should the mixer be? Line lengths and such.

NPWfever - 25-6-2008 at 10:49 PM

So can I just do this? The Ace only has A's B's C's and brakes, not D's, which is what this is set up for. Is there a 3 bridle depower system out there? Or will this just work? Seems like it would work fine to me.

Srry for the chicken scratch, photoshop freaked out and the type tool wouldnt work, sad thing is I did that with a pen tablet, and the pen tool, thats just my handwriting.....

Thats it? no more info? how did it go? its almost a full year later and no responses. I just purchased a Pansh Ace 6.0m and flying on the handles, is very tiring, I would like to know if there is a de-power setup that will work. Using the handles, my ace did not fold in when applying the brakes for turning, though it does prefer to turn using only the A Lines. I am in the middle of fabricating a simple bar solution, though I am not very experienced with bars to know what the best setup would be, or which bar to purchase is a good idea. I would like to use this kite for the snow and such. I am a paraglider from utah, and I have no wing or a place to fly out here in buffalo new york. I miss the point! :( So if anyone has any ideas or input on this. please post. Maybe Trying to use this pansh ace is not so good, and I should keep it as a little play thing. Boy does this pansh ace 6.0 M have some pull on it. Its a strong kite in only 7mph wind. even right over head, right at the zenith, if a gust comes, you really feel the pull. This kite drug me a number of times in only 10mph wind and less. thanks in advance!
