Anyone planning anything for the weekend after July 4th.
Sunset Beach, LC, Newport, Florence?

bison - 4-7-2008 at 07:12 AM

Kites and Fireworks just don't mix well! We've tried buggying on July 4th weekend but many close calls have been limiting. Not that you can't get some riding in but with the crowds and the fact that just about every city around Seaside has BANNED ANY Fireworks within their city. Seaside has become a war zone. Last night you would of thought it was the 4th, but just missing the big show!

Sunset beach may be ok BUT BE CAREFUL I have come close MANY TIMES.

csa_deadon - 4-7-2008 at 08:48 AM

I have had a few close calls myself. Was actually thinking about the 11th, 12th, or the 13th.

gross213 - 4-7-2008 at 10:00 AM

I may be up for an 11th and or 12th trip to Sunset :flaming:

jellis - 4-7-2008 at 10:19 AM

OK OK twist my arm, I'll go! 12th and 13th

csa_deadon - 4-7-2008 at 11:06 AM

Would love to fly Sunset. Have never flown there before.
Bummer is, my buggy will not be finished yet, and besides scudding is oh so fun :spin:

gross213 - 4-7-2008 at 03:00 PM

maybe i will finally get some seat time in my buggy for the first time since I bought it, i haven't heard from the Mayor of Sunset beach yet. How about it Jim you going to be around next weekend ? :flaming:

csa_deadon - 4-7-2008 at 10:04 PM

Hope people can get together next weekend. Would love to pick your brains on buggy building.

sunset-Jim - 5-7-2008 at 07:21 AM

You know me, I'll be there. BTW, it was an awesome day out there yesterday. 20 mph winds all day and well into sunset to be topped off with 20 mile long stretch of fireworks.

USA_Eli_A - 5-7-2008 at 04:56 PM

i might be there, see how traffic is:alien:

csa_deadon - 6-7-2008 at 10:22 AM

I'm planning on being up there on Sat.
Maybe you guys can teach this old school kiter a few new tricks

ikemiester - 7-7-2008 at 06:26 PM

welllllllllllll considering i live less than a mile away guess I could pull out the old bike and take it for a spin.
BTW what time so I can plan?

sunset-Jim - 7-7-2008 at 07:27 PM

PLAN?? If the wind is blowin, it's time...

Looks like there should be plenty of beach all the way till about 6 or so. Not a very low tide, but not a very high one either. And lookin like some good weather too.

csa_deadon - 7-7-2008 at 07:50 PM

think i could be there around 9 or 10 am

gross213 - 8-7-2008 at 08:07 PM

I will also get there around 9 or 10 am on Saturday

csa_deadon - 9-7-2008 at 10:08 AM

Anyone know what the winds have been like this week at sunset beach?
The winds here in Newport have been nucing all week 20-40mph.

sunset-Jim - 9-7-2008 at 07:41 PM

20-25 everyday since about Thursday. Forecasting for about the same for the rest of the week up to Saturday. Then slowing down to 10-15 on Sunday, but also changing from a nnw to a w on Sunday. And of course, A L L long range forecast are very accurate... lol But, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

csa_deadon - 9-7-2008 at 07:48 PM

just trying to figure out what gear to bring.

sunset-Jim - 9-7-2008 at 07:58 PM

ikemiester - 9-7-2008 at 11:01 PM

I just had an awesome day out there today! took out my frenzy in 20+ winds SCARY but fun. I finally got to see what the thing was made of.

USA_Eli_A - 10-7-2008 at 10:16 AM

I don't know about anyone else, but it's been a rockin summer. More kite time than I've had in a couple years!!! So So fun!!!

csa_deadon - 10-7-2008 at 06:27 PM

T minus 38 hours 30 minutes and counting! :tumble:

csa_deadon - 11-7-2008 at 09:54 PM

Since I don't know any of you showing up on Saturday I'll be the guy with the Montana pack with 4 RM 8's and a REV strapped to the side. Or look for the guy just wandering around. :frog:

sunset-Jim - 11-7-2008 at 10:02 PM

we usually meet up just to the north of sunset beach access.

Cya there.

USA_Eli_A - 12-7-2008 at 09:15 AM

the third pole marker has been better than ever....I've been third pole or north towards ft stevens this summer.

sunset-Jim - 12-7-2008 at 09:24 AM

I agree, but the shooting range was red yesterday. No telling for the weekend.

archkiter - 12-7-2008 at 09:34 AM

I am hoping to be out there on Sunday...

sunset-Jim - 12-7-2008 at 09:45 AM

with a new kite?

gross213 - 12-7-2008 at 09:15 PM

Well just got home after a Saturday at Sunset. Was a great day, but I did forget the sunblock and snapped two lines on my 3 meter at the same time. It was a blast can't wait to do it again hope you all have fun on Sunday..:singing:

csa_deadon - 12-7-2008 at 09:31 PM

Now how did you manage that

Had a great time today. You guys were great to fly with. Jim thanks for the instruction and seat time.

USA_Eli_A - 13-7-2008 at 09:30 AM

I've been heading up to the bend in the beach, around the Third pole, the soft sand is blown away and the wind is much stronger up there..

The shooting range prevents traveling from sunset to this magical land, so you'll have to wait, but in between sessions they let the cars pass, or kites pass..

And for future ref...handicap jon....he's penalized me in the past, so I can't wait for some payback....he should fly 2 sizes smaller with one deflated tire!!

csa_deadon - 13-7-2008 at 10:29 AM

I was meaning to ask Jim what the surcharge was for blo-karts at sunset beach anyway? :smug:

archkiter - 14-7-2008 at 12:16 PM

had a fun time with you all yesterday. my head is still hurting from that last OBE but I have a big grin just thinking about how much buggying I got in

sunset-Jim - 14-7-2008 at 02:09 PM

ouch!!!
As long as it was worth it...:wow:

USA_Eli_A - 14-7-2008 at 02:30 PM

you looked pretty satisfied with the amount of kiting you did that day. Or that was a concussion grin.....advil should help...

good to see you out...

archkiter - 14-7-2008 at 02:34 PM

yep, been munching the advil all day. I still can't figure out how a landed on my head the second time- thank goodness for helmets! I got in nearly 20 miles of buggying so yeah it was worth it :spin:
