Ace as a low wind kite

_____ - 4-7-2008 at 08:12 AM

Well since buying my Beamer it seems as though the wind has decided to go elsewhere. Dont know if its just me that this has happend to or anyone else, but I was thinking of getting a larger kite for low wind days. Would a Ace be a suitable choice for that or too much of a lifty kite? And TBH I was thinking ab out 7m because I really like the white and siver combo :)

Trying to stay @ $200 or less.

You have the new kite curse !!!

New kite = 2 weeks of no wind

Others will confirm the curse

Atleast 2 weeks...but then again, that big Ace doesn't really need wind, as much as a runner.

Yep, never fails! When I got my Bullet brand new I did not have wind for over two weeks.:flaming:

You could go for the 6 ace and get the 4.5 legend with it for 200 bucks.

I've only flown the 5m, but I found it to be a great low-wind kite, it actually comes out again after my 6.5 blade is longer able to stay in the air!

No jumps or scudding when that happens though, just having fun flying something big enough to lean back against!

I edited the bridle on mine quite a bit, depowered and extended the tips as well, this really helped the low-wind performance and with 30% of the bridle gone had a bit less drag / weight to deal with.

+1 on that curse...

as far as the Ace goes, the bigger ones will fly with less wind. I have a 6m and although it stays up pretty well in 8-10mph, it really won't stay up in less than that unless I run about like a maniac. fyi, I'm pretty sure the 7m doesn't come with handles, and it definitely doesn't come with killers, so be sure to figure that in.

Thanks guys. I think Im going to try and get the 5m thats for sale on the boards here.

f0rgiv3n - 7-7-2008 at 01:52 PM

_____ - 7-7-2008 at 01:58 PM

WELDNGOD - 7-7-2008 at 02:05 PM

jason Pansh has the 5 m ace and the 3 m legend for 189 bucks goto their website

f0rgiv3n - 7-7-2008 at 02:05 PM

Well... haven't mod'd yet :D i just got mine last week. we'll have to stumble through it. hahaha ;)

ps. look above this post. it's a great deal on their site! I went with it. It was a great way to get my brother into the sport, he spent $90 and I spent $100 :D. $100 for an ace! woo! :P (I did have to buy an extra set of lines/handles though).

_____ - 7-7-2008 at 02:11 PM

I thought about that too but I just shouldnt be spending $100 right now so $200 just aint gonna happen :(

WELDNGOD - 7-7-2008 at 02:16 PM

I don't think your ready for an ace yet anyway bro'. When you don't have to wrap up (like that day on the beach) then you will be ready. what you saw my rage do,the ace will do on a regular basis.:wow:

_____ - 7-7-2008 at 02:20 PM

I was planning on using it only when there wasnt enough wind for the Beamer to fly which seems to be alot around here now :(

WELDNGOD - 7-7-2008 at 02:22 PM

if you get a touch too much ,get ready to fly . how low are you talkin?

WELDNGOD - 7-7-2008 at 02:25 PM

There is wind right now. why u no fly?

_____ - 7-7-2008 at 02:26 PM

I dont have a wind meter but single digits easily prob 4-7/8. I fugured if I bought a Ace to use in such conditions now, once Im ready I could us it for jumping later on.

I would have loved to keep flying that day but with all the ther kites on the ground, the tent and people I knew it wasnt a good idea :D

silvereaglekiter - 7-7-2008 at 04:45 PM

wohoo east wind I have ben so spoiled flyn at the beach fley my PL today for a test run of my new handles :tumble: they still needs some tuning in the kite kept over flying me :D

_____ - 7-7-2008 at 05:37 PM

I flew for 2.5 hours today at a field behind a local elementary school. There was a little leauge practice going on and I could hear the coach getting pissed because some of the players were watching the kite more than the game...lol.

Its a nice big field though.

Type in:
5210 Hampton Blvd, Norfolk, VA in Wunderground.com and its the field just to the right of the pin.

silvereaglekiter - 7-7-2008 at 06:45 PM

ur spot is on the map:thumbup:;)

_____ - 7-7-2008 at 06:59 PM

Sweet! It doesnt look very big on the map but Id say between 3-4 soccer fields in size. There is only one goal thats out in the middle (easy to avoid) and a few 55g drums they use for trash cans (also very avoidable and moveable).

WELDNGOD - 8-7-2008 at 01:46 PM

sweet, how's the wind there? inland wind usually sux.

_____ - 8-7-2008 at 03:38 PM

It wasnt too bad but nothing like beach wind. When it was blowing it was very consistant but when the wind died off it took some working to keep her up. The wind was blowing from the south so there are only small buildings a few 100 yards away. Nothing to really block the wind.
