kite buggy or blokart rentals?

brynley - 10-7-2008 at 07:56 AM

I am keen to try either kite buggying or land sailing/ blokarting. Does anyone know of a place I can rent equipment and try in Central California or Vancouver, BC area?

I do not think you will find rentals due to the difficulty of potential renters getting insurance, at least in the US. My insurance agent said dont'e even think about it.

Best bet is to to try to hook up with someone who will let you borrow. I let people use my bugs when they visit the region if I know them, have a reference, or otherwise can be convinced of their skills and good judgement.

No rentals available but folks in Vancouver are all good about sharing equipment.

You can probably borrow any of my fixed bridle kites , buggy, ATB or Blades. I would want to know how well you fly before I would hand over the Flysurfers + I use them a lot so no long term loan available on therm. .

I don't use the buggy or fixed bridles much so we can probably work something out. It's a VERY old / basic / small, flexi' buggy.

Thanks- I have never actually flown this sport- but it looks like loads of fun, so really want to give it a try. How does one get started & check it out?

The best way to get started is to hook-up with the locals. I have yet to see any that are not enthusiastic to help with newbies.

Good Luck

YUP,

If you are in Vancouver just swing by Gary Point park in Richmond on any weekend. There will be a gang there. Best bet is to post on the forum just to firm things up. + make sure someone has trainer kites for you.

I need to print this out to show my wife. She knows I've borrowed a truckload of fun stuff from Angus, but she didn't know I had to have credentials. I especially like the "good judgement" part to show the wife. All jokes aside, many thanks to Angus for sharing his knowledge, time, and gear. If you need kite gear, he is an awesome choice as well. He takes care of you before and after the sale. www.coastalwindsports.com

Thanks for the info on Gary Point Park. I will definitely check it out! Oh, and sorry for disappearing for a while- just a little hectic around here.
