So I got my 5m Ace in the mail the other day and have flown it once so far. It came with handles from Powerzone but they do not have a loop on the
back bottom of the handles like the ones that came with my Beamer. They also do not have the extra line on th back top (dont know the name) where you
would attatch a strop.
Question 1: What do I have to do to attatch a stop and what can I do to stake the kite down?
Question 2: Im I retarded or just stupid for asking such a dumb question? :puzzled:NPWfever - 24-7-2008 at 06:21 PM
Uhm......well, thats odd, cuz my Pansh handles have a stake loop, and a strop leader.....
Well you could just get a new set of handles, maybe fly it on the beamer handles, but they may be too small/not strong enough, or take out the leaders
on it now, drill out the back of each, and put in new leaders with a strop leader, and a stake loop._____ - 24-7-2008 at 06:25 PM
Yea these arent Pansh handles they were from Powerzone. Ill get a pic tomorrow and post it up. A picture may help.WELDNGOD - 24-7-2008 at 06:26 PM
get some paracord and drill out the handles and remake the leaders with loops_____ - 24-7-2008 at 06:29 PM
That sounds like my only choice. Thanks Donny.DAKITEZ - 24-7-2008 at 09:38 PM
I'm sure powerzone will have a fix for you ..
The strope leader is more important than the brake loopBladerunner - 24-7-2008 at 09:50 PM
The handles that came with my 2.5 Profoil are like that ?
The bottom missing made sense because they don't recommend killers on that kite. The stake loop on the top not being on them makes them useless to me.
I have them on the NPW now because the handles from it ( Dakitze ) are far superior so they go on the profoil.DAKITEZ - 24-7-2008 at 09:53 PM
sorry for the hijack ... but why would kite killers not be recommended for the profoil , snowy ?furbowski - 24-7-2008 at 09:59 PM
for the groundstake: make a couple of short loops and larkshead them onto the brake lines on the handle side, jammed right up against the handles
themselves. not too pretty, but it would be effective.
for the strop connections opposite the power leaders: make a couple of slightly longer loops, do a clove hitch around the handles, making sure the two
lines of the clove hitch are on either side of the power leaders, but make them long enough so the overhand knot (or fig 8 for extra strength) is
sticking out an inch or two behind the handles. your strop line would fit on there fine.
get back to me and I'll tie the lines and take a photo.macboy - 24-7-2008 at 10:01 PM
I've got some handles that are such that it's easier for me to make a strop with two large loops at each end that wrap right around the handle in a
larkshead fashion with the powerline passing through.
Not sure about the lack of loops / kite killer thing - I attach my killers to the same point that the flying line attaches to the leader. On my
handles without brake loops I just loop the end of the handles over the stake and it seems to be fine (although not very secure I bet).furbowski - 24-7-2008 at 10:05 PM
macboy has an even easier fix... nice one.
but extra lines around the handles can really chew up the foam grips, a couple hours of hard flying will do the trick. I was going to edit my post,
but whatever...
can also pad the lines using some half-inch tubular webbing, same principle as sleeving the sewn loops on kite lines, available cheap by the foot at

I didn't get instructions or anything with the profoil but when I was searching info on them I read it online ( so it MUST be true :duh ) that killers aren't recommended.
Profoil has a somewhat unique pattern that uses minimal bridles on the brakes. It's only on the outsides. I expect that the style of brake bridle
doesn't spread the force.
Or maybe they hope that if you fly without killers for a while you'll see how useless / dangerous they are !
Now there's a hijack for you !;-)

That is pretty much it, but I always used KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s on my Profoils with no troubles. Once when I broke a main line leader (pulled out of
handle) and dumped the whole kite on one side, I did pull out one wing tip bridle tab, so they are a bit vulnerable. But when dumping the kite on
both brakes you should be OK.furbowski - 25-7-2008 at 08:32 AM
this sounds like the brake line mod I did on my 5m Ace, very simple, just took out the two sets closest to the middle, six bridle lines in all.
i found that the kite was slightly harder to reverse launch in light winds, but much easier to back down to the ground on brakes.
i also found that the control on the brakes was more progressive than before, less on/off, and i still had full brake power.
i took a few lines out of the power bridle near the tips as well, about a 30% loss of bridle lines overall, and it seems to be a little easier to fly
in superlight winds.
that said, i only fly static, and there may be a fine edge of control (esp in terms of powering up slightly by pulling on the brakes) lost when flying
on buggy / ATB.
i like the mod, and tried it on my blade, same result... I've since restored the blade to stock as it's an expensive kite and i'm bad at getting
kites back to stock if i don't do it right away...
hijack city here, eh?B-Roc - 25-7-2008 at 09:43 AM
For the ground stake, just run your stake through the loops on the brake line where they are larksheaded to the handle leader. Even sewn lines tend
to have enough of a loop in them that there is room for a golf ball type stake to squeeze in betweeen the line and the leader on the brake line
terminal loop. That's all I ever do.
