So I need a new one. Any recommendations? I was using a LaCrosse EA3010 and it wasn't bad at all although I've seen some with a "cage" around the vane
instead of the fan like mine had which to me seems smart since you don't have to make sure you're pointing the thing right into the wind.
The old one will turn up as soon as I've committed to a new one.

I like my kestrel 1000 it's the same design with the fan as the lacrosse though

A company called Kaindl makes the Windtronic windmeter. Search windtronic on ebay and you'll find a few. It has the cage with cups on the inside.
It has a tripod mount on the bottom - I use a cheapo tripod and just set it up with the bag o' stuff and can check on the max and average windspeeds
with ease.

Although I don't use it much I'm happy with my Windtronic. I like that it catches max, min and avg. I was told that a tri-cup style is more accurate
than a fan. It will pick up even in shifting winds ??
I'm pretty sure my Sister picked it up from Ebay for me ? Lots of them on there.
Personally, I would buy a GPS WAYYYYYYYYY before a wind meter ! I'm far more intersted in MY min, max, running , avg speed and distance covered in
real #s ! The wind speed is always subjective reading from the ground instead of at the kite !!!

I myself use a Kestral 2000
Its pretty much the same as the 1000 but has the temperature thingy on it.
As Bladerunner metioned above...a GPS would be far more usefull.
Think I might go get one today before SOBB
Cheers all!

Son of a B!t(h!!!! I lost mine too. Only thing is, I KNOW mine is gone...must've fell out of the truck the other day in the parking lot. I used it
on Wednesday and cleaned out the truck today with neg res. Oh well, at least I stole it for 30 bucks intstead of the 90 it usually goes for.

Got a Kaindl Windtronic 2 myself...Love it....very accurate compared to the several I used before...Look on ebay...one guy in particular is always
selling them. If I remember right, I think I paid $70.
