New Team Rider for HQ, Coastal Wind Sports

acampbell - 30-8-2008 at 05:24 AM

I am pleased to announce that Wexler Muse has been recognized as a new Team Rider for HQ Kites and Coastal Wind Sports.

At 12 years of age, Wexler has demonstrated considerable skills with a viariety of kites, both fixed bridle and de-power. Earlier this summer he picked up my Montana III 9.5m and with my Large Warrior harness about up to his armpits, managed to maneuver it smartly in light wind (and a lot of you know that this is tricky), while catching some terrific air.

Under the watchful eye of his dad, Bobby Muse (BeamerBob), Wexler has had no trouble flying some pretty powerful kites that would intimidate a lot of adults, showing skills and judgement beyond his years. I'm glad to have him as team rider for Coastal Wind Sports.

Wexler and family will be joining us for HQ Demo Day here on Jekyll Island on Saturday, September 6th from 2- 6pm at Kite Beach.

He will also be joining us later in the month for the First Annual Jekyll Island Buggy Expo (JIBE!) on the weekend of September 26th through 28th.

Do come join us.

HQ (as do most manufacturers) recognizes accomplished riders who use their gear and help promote their brand. Team Riders are also often aligned with a local shop, in this case, us.
Wexler and is dad help promote power kiting in the SouthEast, and Wexler further demonstrates the age divesity and accessability of the sport, along with the acessability of the HQ brand.

Sorry for the late reply here. I was away from the computer from lunch on Friday. I am very proud of Wexler. Since I got into this I would be trying out a new kite, and being bewildered by its power, Wexler is at my side asking if he could fly it. For the first 3-4 kites I would at first say "No way I could let you fly THIS kite. It's just too powerful for you". After he continually proved me wrong, I changed my tune to "you have to be able to hold or regain your ground or its either too much kite or too much wind or both. I've always kept his safety as rule one and after that, just have fun. He has flown every kite I have owned and/or flown including kites that experienced adults shy away from. By the way, he weighs about 90 lbs. As far as the Montana III goes, I've had to ask him for advice before. He flew it before me and has more time in with it. He has been water and snow skiing since he was 6, as well as skateboarding. He began wakeboarding about 2 years ago and looks more natural there than many people do standing on land. This history should set the stage for him to really excel at landboarding. I can't wait to see how he does with the new stuff coming out at the HQ demo day this Saturday at Jekyll Island. I'll let him know about Angus' announcement and you'll hear from him this afternoon for sure.

Thanks for the kudos from all of you.
