So it was wonderfully windy today - gusty too even better - couldn't have worse conditions for flying - so I thought, "let's go test out the 8m peter
lynn hornet"..
when launching, in a moderately strong wind, there's no way not to get dragged along the ground - if launched in the window - and when actually in the
air, most of the time at the zenith I'm lying with my feet on the floor, and the rest of me hovering about a foot off the ground.
had the first lofting experience, I was suddenly waaayy too high in the air, so was faced with the decision "let go and plummet or hold on, go even
higher and then land gently?" - went for the second option - so even though I was yelling "s**t s**t, I still landed pretty gracefully, knees didn't
buckle or anything. Packed the 8m away and did a bit of flying with the 3m radsail (ole faithful) and then called it a day.
all I can do is repeat myself and say always wear kite killers, no matter what the wind.
pretty much my only regret is that there were kid's around (behind me I might add) saying "look mommy he can fly). thankfully none of them asked to
have a go on the kites as they would have got swept away.
