Our big day in the spotlight !

Bladerunner - 15-9-2008 at 03:45 PM

Well we pulled it off

The crew all got on Breakfast T.V. today !:singing:
We had 7 segments totalling about 1/2 hour through the 3 hour show !
We had the wind this mornig when it doesn't usually blow. Good thing because this was live T.V. and we had to go for it wind or not :wow:

The water crew has been getting plenty of press in past years. This summer it was our turn to step out from the Dark Side, show them WE have evolved and moved up on to the land :ninja:
1st B'boy got in the paper, next we get a spot on cable T.V., then I got on a T.V. tag. Phontaine just got a spot on the news. Now today we were the focus a 3 hour show.

This has been a breakthrough year for our crew !
This sport took off and died once in this town but I believe we are here to stay now !

kiteon - 15-9-2008 at 04:11 PM

great news, could we get a link to watch some of that

harddrive8 - 15-9-2008 at 04:18 PM

Glad to hear the wind cooperated with ya'll today! I'm also glad to hear that the sport is getting positive publicity in a growing manner.

Bladerunner - 15-9-2008 at 04:58 PM

We are working on getting a copy. Believe it or not the show doesn't supply us one. :ticking:
Hopefully we can get it off of someones DVR ?
If not we can purchase it.
I'll post a link to my previous T.V. tag.

Bladerunner - 15-9-2008 at 07:55 PM

:wow: Holy Smoke :wow:

I just heard they came back at 12:30 :singing:

Dirtslide and Drifter stayed behind and they filmed them for about an hour

BOTH of these guys can pull off some outrageous buggy tricks. Dirtslide rides his buggy ATB style
One foot in the saddle and the other on the footpeg. He has this and a bag of tricks he can link together :cool2:
It sounds like they are on T.V. tomorrow :thumbup:

This is just crazy!:singing:

bloah - 15-9-2008 at 08:19 PM

wow guys u have a nice spot there to landboard. here in ontario there's nothing like that. I was out on a soccer field, tried it for 30 minutes, and it was to gusty to fly it. I think i just gona stick to water and snow only.

revpaul - 15-9-2008 at 09:00 PM

good job you guys/gals. looks like a lot of fun out there.

Bladerunner - 16-9-2008 at 08:14 AM

The park you see Phontaine and I in is right on the Sea Wall. We get almost too much attention in this park.

In my case it was a mobile T.V. crew looking for spots for their T.V. Tag.
Similar situation with Phontaine.

I think Channel 4 approached Dirtslide and Breakfast T.V. was do to the fellow who did the tag asking if we would be interested in helping them make this a story.

Them coming back yesterday was completely out of left field !

We have 2 things going for us:
Numbers! We can get enough people to take time off work to give them a good show. Some of them with enviable skills !
Resources. We now have a few people selling gear in town. So we are set to follow up on the attention ?

I suggest you put together a clip of what you and your crew do and send it to the local stations. Cable T.V. is always hungry for stories ?

ripsessionkites - 16-9-2008 at 04:57 PM

you forgot to mention that some of us, way back when turned a little unknown park into a kitepark, one in Vancouver, and the other in Richmond.

kitemaker4 - 16-9-2008 at 05:20 PM

Where is your protective gear?

Susan (npw goddess)

Bladerunner - 16-9-2008 at 06:49 PM

If you are asking me , mine is always on.
If you are talking about our crew, we live in Vansterdam. We don't lay rules on each other :cool2: We are all adults and make our own choices. Everyone that knows me knows I wish everyone would wear a helmet EVERY time they put up a kite. I lead by example and that's all I can do !

Does your crew wear full gear every time out ?????????? Dog got a helmet ? Did you take your elbow and knee pads off for your avatar ? We won't mention Holly Beach :wink2:

After we got a few ( less pointed ) comments on the channel 4 spot we requested that people wear safety gear if they want close ups in the channel 13 spot!

Just a note : Yesterday I took 2 rather hard hits to the head getting stuck in sand traps with the blades. I'm not saying it saved my life but I would have 2 nasty eggs today !

normally i dont wear a helmet unless i'm at SOBB or NABX. the park is too small too go that fast. however recently i'm wearing my helmet more, and i also wanted to pickup a helmet for my son as well when he sits in the buggy with me.

note i didnt wear a helmet when we went out on the tandem ride with the TV Host. oh well. I needed my face in one of the shots instead of my full face helmet.

Bladerunner - 16-9-2008 at 08:36 PM

In Rip's defense. It was the suggestion of the host ( on channel 13 ) that he go without a helmet in that section of filming. He wore one when free riding

Scudley - 23-9-2008 at 03:41 PM

Here is the clip done by another TV station later that day with Dirt Slide and Drifter: http://www.globaltv.com/globaltv/bc/microsites/McCardell/ind...

Bladerunner - 23-9-2008 at 05:32 PM

That show didn't do justice to how well those 2 can ride
Dirtslide has the longest list of tricks that I know.

ripsessionkites - 23-9-2008 at 05:44 PM

good job guys, way to represent old Flexi and U-Turn.

the tv host was out there a few years back, RonH will remember that day.

its good were in the spotlight, it will do wonders when we work with the Parks Board this winter.

ripsessionkites - 30-9-2008 at 12:15 PM

Baluk - 30-9-2008 at 02:47 PM

Good stuff!

sunset-Jim - 30-9-2008 at 04:04 PM

Great video guys... good job. :wee:

Bladerunner - 16-10-2008 at 04:35 PM

Well we got a little more attention. This time on the shirt tail of the BCKA . This show doesn't do them justice. They are a highly skilled, well organized group. They have some awsome multi flier sincro' routines that they do !

We get a bit of footage in the middle. Looks like Dirtslide to me ?
