Hello from Ireland,
I have been getting the bits and pieces together to make my doomwheels for a while now. It has been quite a task as the raw materials have been thin
on the ground here in Ireland.
I will post all my sources once I know they all work. (I've already bought one set of dud wheels from England.)
My question is about the aluminium rails. After much searching I was finally able to find one company in Dublin that could sell me the aluminium. The
smallest length they would sell me was 4 meters.
That got me thinking that I could loop the aluminium around the front and back wheel like a fender on a car and this 'fender' could act like a heel
brake on a normal skate.
Do you think this will work?
I have studied the picture and video galleries and from what I can make out the only time the front or back wheel is raised is when the skater is
goofing around. That in normal skating all four wheels are on the ground.
I should add that I intend to use my doomwheels with my kitewing. I don't know if that makes a difference but thought I would include it.
Any feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to the forum.
Though some have used aluminium rails, I recommend steel. I had a problem with lighter metals bending just behind the heel-end boot mount. Plus weight
equals speed so there really isn't much reason for aluminium. If you use it, make sure it is thicker than recommended on the doomwheels.com build
plans.
Using a wrapped rail as a brake? Interesting, but I don't think you would be able to put enough pressure on the brake positioned so far behind your
heel. Additionally, the skate becomes far less stable once the front wheel is lifted. Doing so with any real speed could cause an accident. Using the
kite or carving a tight upwind turn is the best way to stop.
Good luck building your skates. Be sure to add some pics to the gallery (kiteskating section).

After a long time of planning, one set of wheels that didn't work and lots of calls trying to find suppliers I finally got all the bits together and
made them.
As promised here are some pictures and a list of the supplies I used.
I got the wheels from http://www.buggywielen.nl/
I got their Moutainboard 300 block wheels with bearings, axel reducers and axels. Including shipping to Ireland from Holland it cost €176.
I got the aluminum from a company in Dublin

They had to bring it in from the Uk. For a 4 meter lenght of 1.5" x .5" it cost €60.
The nuts and bolts I got from

Cost €25
For the spacers to hold the skate in place I used .5" stainless steel tube.

TURNING THESE THINGS HMM.. STEP TURN
USE THE KITE TO CONTROL SPEED AND CURVE UPWIND... YOU WILL NEED SOME SPACE FOR SURE
KITEWING ..... THEY WILL BE VERY CHALLENGING TO LAY OVER ON THE OUTSIDE FOR A TURN. YOU WILL NEED CONSIDERABLE WIND SUPPORT.

I think they are the most PRO looking set I have seen 
I can't help but think they would work in our " Mud " Bay :puzzled:
What are the dimensions of those wheels ?
Turning may take some time to get figured out. Start with step turns but I have a feeling you will be able to carve turns on those with a bit of
practice
