09 access 8 or 10?

What wind speeds are you hoping to fly in with this kite? Have you flown any power kites before?

I fly an 8m AccessXC and love it. When I bought mine my dealer told me that most guys opted for the 8m over the 10m because the 10m was slower and didn't have *that* much more power. However I'm only 150lb so you may need the extra power. The average wind speeds that you see in the winter will have a lot to do with it. Where are you from?

go with the 10m

the 8m will be too small most of the time, especially using a snowboard, you need a bit more power than with skis

The access 10m will be a bit slower than a 8m, but if you are at your first year, this is juts perfect.

Just make sure you learned flying this kite in low winds the first 3-4 times. I assume here that you already know you to fly a power kite and the whole safety issues about it. What size is your IMP.

You mention that you dont know about wind speeds, you still have a few months to get reading about it.

Read about winds, obstacles that cause upward and downward rolls, gusts, how to see them coming, .... You have to be ready, wind can be powerful

A 8m or 10m can lift you up from ground without warnings

Ride hard but safe !

I agree with Buzz. At your weight I'd go for the 10m. It hardly costs anything extra and being underpowered is way worse than being a little overpowered once you get the hang of it. The only thing that you might keep in mind would be that unless you get really strong winds up there you might find that you want/need a bigger kite like a 13m Frenzy FYX once you get the hang of the Access. If you think that may be in your future the 8m/13m would be a pretty sweet two kite quiver.

If you're going to try to get by with just one kite for the next year or two go with the 10m though.

Just kidding. Order it already before the snow gets here. What color are you going with?

Also remember that you are making a major jump from an Imp to a massive 10m kite. Go out in nice low winds and respect that thing. It might be low aspect but it CAN lift you and will hurt you if you don't respect it. Its got a great safety system. That is the first thing that you should get familiar with and practice releasing when you first fly the kite.

Okay, one more thing. Do you have a harness? If not you're going to need one of those as well.

:crazy: GET THE 10!!!!!!! I use a 7m depower at the moment for landboarding and i only weigh 145lbs and i want a bigger depower really really bad. you won't regret the 10m

kiting becomes addictive

your wife/girlfriend will quit you because you'll always be gone kiting

kiting is just expensive and so frustrating on skunk days

you'll be reloading the windguru page into your Internet explorer every 5 minutes to see if the forecast have changed

choose another sport, go bowling, too many kiters already yet on the spots

go with the 10m, and get yourself a Flysurfer Silver Arrow for those days when the winds is below 10 knots

My quiver concurs. Go for the 10 and LOVE IT!!!! That thing is such a nice flying rig it'll let you know right away that you made the right choice. I'm only 170 (185 with all my gear :) and never feel in danger thanks to the exceptional safeties. Settle in and ride.....

This is to true. I am actually looking for a weather station that has a wind speed sensor to put up at my local spot just so I can check it in real time on the net. :)

Wow I think this is a unanimous decision. Total agreement on the PKF. Get the 10m! :thumbup:

Good call on the green. Post up some pics when you get it. I'm still considering grabbing a 6m this winter and am pretty sure I'll go for the green one if I do.

I think you will get the widest range out of the 10. It can really blow at Chestemere lake at times ! Do you have a 3m trainer kite ? If so it will get used on those days the wind is too much for your 10. If you don't have one a good 3m would come in handy ! At least until you buy your 6 and 14 accesses :wink2: :wink2:

It seems to me that the Ocean Rodeo 1 kite in 9m is a very popular kite when I was in Calgary ? Perhaps that has to do with Marketing in the area ? The scene is really starting to get well organized ! :thumbup:
