So the winds been HOWLING all day here (of course, because I'm chained to the desk working on a proposal) and it looks like I might get to go play for
a bit. I checked the winds to see what they're at according to Environment Canada and it said 23mph gusting to 33.
Now, trust me when I say that I'll be packing out a 3m - MAYBE the 4.7 but doubtful. Still, I was curious so I grabbed the printout I made from the
Peter Lynn Wind Range Calculator and had a look see and it said for me, a 77kg chump on land I would still be just under the upper range for my G10 in
the gusts.

A 10m arc doesn't have much projected area, because of the dramatic C shape. So maybe

YUp... depends on what I'm doing with it, but a 10m Arc and 20+mph steady winds is just about perfect. Had one session early in the year where a
4m Access2 was screaming along pretty good.... but a 10m Scorpion was just wayyyyy too much fun in a buggy. The depower range is huge on the PL's,

my PL V16 just over 25mph. and has monster lift. at 90kg. the power is deep and sweet. and the V13 throws turns like a bullwhip in 30mph . total

I'm waiting for someone who's in the know to disclaimer this thread. In a wide open space, after flying for a year and knowing all of my safeties and
the potential dangers, I think I'll be able to suck it up and throw something like that up to see what it feels like but really think there should be
some understood graduation. I'd hate to see someone say "Yeah but they said...." when really they should have flown half the kite for a couple more
months. I'm sure it's okay at Zenith but getting from the ground to there might be quite a shocker if you're not ready for it - even on the edge of
the window. Of course, winds like that I don't imagine the zenith is where you want to hang out....that's the 45 degree window's edge time, right?
Anyway, I think I'm in the "they should fly half the kite" group but will change that this winter on the lake thanks to this thread.

All of those kite wind ranges are just estimates. I would never fly a kite larger than I was comfortable with just because the wind range guide said

One thing to remember is that this is the Peter Lynn 10m G10 (or Scorpion/phantom/etc..) Twinskin kite. This is not the same kite as a fixed bridle
kite. The G 10 meter is really quite a small kite when comparing with the other Twinskin models (largest being 22 meter). Comparing to a normal
fixed bridle kite I would say it has the low end power of a 2-3 meter kite when depowered fully and when fully powered (in a high wind like is
mentioned) around a 6-8 meter.
The Twin Skin kites excel in the higher wind ranges anyways, so taking a G10 out in 20 - 30 mph winds is actually a possible and fun wind to fly that
kite in, especially on water, on land you may be at the upper end of the range. The only thing scary about it is the launch, make sure you are a
minimum of 45 degrees off to the side of the wind (probably around 50-55 degrees) and snap it up in the C-Shape quick, instantly shooting it to the
edge of the window. From there work it up overhead and get ready for an awesome time. I usually launch in those conditions unhooked with the depower
pulled as far in as physically possible, that way if the S$*& hits the fan you can just let go of the bar and then re-set. Once the kite is in
the air then your fine. As always with any kite - you should take the kite out in lighter winds to get use to it first. Once you are very familiar
with the kite and its behavior, and your skills with said kite grow, then you can go out in the stronger winds (as your skills and ability permit).
I agree with KiteNH, not paranoia, just caution which is always the best thing. Be safe, remember where your safety's are at and don't be afraid to
use them at a nano-seconds notice!

fly what you know , and know what you fly, you can dump from the launch.
off of 45 degrees half pumped, trim it in,& FLY IT! to the edge it 's stupid and slow at that point.
be safe and comfortable with your actions.
