Ozone Yakuza History

OreBeamer - 9-10-2008 at 10:46 PM

The Yakuza was released (from what I can tell) in 2005.

Have there been any changes since the release? Or are they the same now as they were in 2005?

Anybody know?

05-07 they discovered a built a unique fabrique' for it, but, I've flown the 05s and the new ones and the difference is drastic if you a good enough on the race kites to know the diff...

I don't know much more than that

OreBeamer - 10-10-2008 at 11:37 AM

Thanks! How would I tell the difference in looking at one, what year it is from?
Did they offer different color schemes over the years?

USA_Eli_A - 10-10-2008 at 11:39 AM

yeah, not too many colors...just a few variations, but the silver blue and white is awesom...looks like a hot rod

OreBeamer - 10-10-2008 at 02:11 PM

Yeah I like that one too.
Any idea what year a Red, White & Bluishpurple would be from?

I believe there was a slight modification between the early '05 models and the current released ones (late 05-06 to now). It was a small mod in either the bridle or the actual sail...or maybe both, not sure exactly but there was a difference. It was minor enough that Ozone didn't feel the need to release an entire new model kite for it. The current model seems to be slightly less prone to fold up in gusty conditions when at the edge of the window and also seems to be a little smoother in the power delivery.

That's all about to change in the next 2-3 months as the all new Yakuza GT is scheduled to be released sometime around January/February '09. The GT is a total redesign of the current Yakuza and will knock your socks off. New bridling, new sail design, cleaner trailing edge and huge performance.....I can't wait!!!

The red ones are faster than the blue ones...............aj

OreBeamer - 10-10-2008 at 03:51 PM

Thanks for the history Guys!
Not sure about red being faster... doesn't red mean stop?
I better paint my kites green if I really want to go fast... :frog:
Yeah I have heard the GT's getting some good reviews.

But anyways main thing I was tring to figure out is what year the (Red, White & Bluishpurple)scheme Yakuza were made.

Geez, to think that the Yakuza can actually get better. Whow...can't wait to fly one.

Will there be a lot made during the initial production run or can we expect delays?

jellis - 11-10-2008 at 10:20 AM

Thats is right Kent every year they make a better one. :bouncy: Just think in 5 years or so.........

USA_Eli_A - 11-10-2008 at 10:54 AM

They seem to roll out a new line of snowkites every season.

USA_Eli_A - 11-10-2008 at 02:30 PM

every two season from hear on out...mega break through in design...so every year you might see new colors...

This is turning into a hijack on my part but I did find it interesting that they did another redesign on the Frenzy after last years major redesign. I almost went for the FYX but I decided to save some $ and grabbed a new FX at a great price instead. Hopefully I don't regret it. I figured that last years Frenzy was the best one ever made until this year so it was probably good enough for me. It's a beautiful kite and if I fly the FYX later this winter at least I'll appreciate the improvements.

I don't think that they made any changes on the 09 Access except for the new bag (last year's bag was basically a ripstop pouch).

Going back on topic (sort of), I like the way that they release the snow kites with new colors and "model years" every year. It makes it easier to track the age of the kite so that you know what you're buying when you buy used. If they did this with the fixed bridle models then OreBeamer would know the age of the Yak he was looking at.

If I could SEE his kite I could tell him....you are right though...I like the ozone product for '05 on...the fyx has a two pulley system. but I here the fx is awesome too! you really can't go wrong with the ozone line...my razors fly like new 4 yrs later
