First Flight

Hey guys I am a newbie and I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but here is my question. I am totally new to power kiting and I am about to make my first flight today. I have a dual line prism stylus 2.8 meter. I thought that this would be a good kite for me to start out on. I got it last week, but I have been too busy to fly it until now. I just checked my local weather and they say 25 to 30 mph winds today and gusts up to 40. Do you guys think that this is too much wind for a first flight with a 2.8 meter or would this be a good learning experience? I have a friend going with me to help with the launch. Thanks for any advice or tips that you guys can offer.

That is a lot of wind for a first time out! I've scared myself s***less with less wind and a 1.5m kite. If you do go out, don't be afraid to LET GO! Also make sure you have a lot of clear space downwind... like 100 yds. at least. I would recommend more like 15 mph to start with.
Good luck man!

Thanks for the reply. I have only flown power kites one time and I did pretty well, but the winds were only about 5-10 mph. I wondered about letting the kite go. When you said if things get too hairy to just let the kite go. Would I be able to just let one line go and hold on to the other or would this be a bad idea? I also thought that if I could put my hands close together and bring the kite to the top edge of the envelope that I would be ok because there would be less pull there. Now after checking the local weather I see that the winds have been 18 mph all day so maybe there is not as much as they predicted. Thanks again for all the help.
