questions about dakine storm

Dagon - 27-10-2008 at 07:42 PM

I just bought a dakine storm harness. ad said it was a medium but it sure feels like a small. does anyone know where I can find the size printed on the harness?
I have a 32inch waist and this thing is not comfortable.
also it looks like someone has sewn the leg straps so they wont extend past a certain point. Is this the way they are made in the factory?

someone please help

http://dakine.com/kite/harnessesbars/harnesses/storm/

Size: XS= 28-30", S= 30-32", M= 32-34", L= 34-36", XL= 36-40"

there should be a little tag somewhere on the outside of the harness with the size on it. did you buy it USED or NEW? sometimes its near the lower part of the harness (butt area) or on the last strap on the left / right side.

my suggestion is that you contact dakine.

Hey Dagon - My kid had a Dakine Storm and after a couple of minutes looking I found the tag. On the right hand side of the harness, lower strap, there is a label that says Dakine. The size label is sewn directly under it with the size.

I think these run a little small. My son is 11 and uses a Size M harness synched all the way down and it fits just fine. The kid is a stick too.

Did you find it?

what about the leg straps, are they supposed to be sewn?

the tag has been cut off, but there is a small white tag on the inside of the rear pocket that has an S on it.

ya its wierd tho, i never saw why they would sew that, but it was made like that

On the same note, I'm in the market for a seat harness and without much options to try any on(other than Dagon's, which is small and snug) is there any good recommendations? The thought of getting one in the mail that is ill-fitting has me second guessing them all. I've a large frame 36-38" waist.

dakine xt or fusion

i'd see if you can pick one locally for size fitting than buying online blind.

Soylent - 29-10-2008 at 08:32 AM

I've been informed that the Fusion's high back makes for an uncomfortable buggy experience. Will look to try one though. I'm tall so what may be a high back on some may be just right for me.

I have a dakine fusion. Its leg straps are sewn so it can only extend so far and never past the point where the straps fall out. IMO, dakine sizes run small. I normally wear pants with a size 30 or 31" waist. According to dakine, I'd be a size small. I however, own a size large harness and snug it all the way up and it fits great. Snug yet comfy.

I'd go a size big for dakine seat harnesses especially if you are going to ride in the snow with added layers. For chest harnesses, I don't think bigger is better as they rotate on your body if too loose (and crush your ribs when too tight :o

Anyone familiar with Mystic? Paticularly the Force Shield. Also is there a dealer in the NorCal area?

BeamerBob - 29-10-2008 at 09:25 AM

I have a mystic force shield. I don't have much to compare it to but it does the job with reasonable comfort. It works in the buggy for me as well. I kinda forget about the harness if buggying with it. I'm a 38 waist and have the extra large. I don't have lots of extra room though.

look here about half way down for pics of me filling up the harness

Thanks BeamerBob, looks like you and I are about the same size and if it works for you then I'll take that as a good recommendation.

It seems like most companies don't know how to make equipment/clothes for big guys like us.

Include me in the "us" where is the big and tall store for kiters :puzzled: or in my case short and fat store

I use a xl HQ harness and it fits well everywhere but the belly.

Lol welcome to the fold! The land where sub-compact cars don't exist.

On a different note I'm hoping for atleast one windy day before the rains come so I can join ya out at the sod farms.

Dagon-Sorry for the thread hi-jack, you can take it out on me friday night.

I have a fusion and yeah the sizing is a bit small small - I'm a 34 waist and I have a Large harness that fits very snug - make sure you have your boys adjusted properly before you put the thing on or you'll seriously regret it. I don't have any problems with the high back support - my biggest problem is with the straps to the spreader bar - they always seem to stretch as I'm going through the day - have to re-tighten over and over again - not to mention the straps are also hard to tighten. But it is a much comfier harness than my old ocean rodeo, which had a tendency to ride up and crush my ribs and diaphragm - hard to breath at times.
