Alright--all I've done so far is static flying and have been able to do a couple jumps--but my question is what else beyond kite killers, helmet, pads
etc... should I get in regards to safety?
I've read things about leashes and other safety systems, but what should be considered or what is the difference between various systems?

What kind of kite are you flying?

Kite killers are for handles . Leashes for bars. Double the distance of your lines clear space downwind is the safest space to look for. Practice
flying your kite very low at both sides and just keeping it there. Use this skill to launch and land from the edge of the window when it is windy.
With or without a partner. Get in the habit of keeping the kite off to one side NOT overhead. This will help avoid unwanted lofting.
What type of kite / kites do you have? What skills do you want to develop ?
As far as buying. Do you have a good kite stake ? A good harness or way to keep it with you ?
Do you have a kite harness ? Flying hooked in is the next most important step for you , I think ???
