Hey Rip,

I was just thinking that I need another Reactor...I love these kites.

Got any more info on the II's or heard from anyone that's ridden one? Any idea on availability in the States/Canada?

Also...curious on the shorter line lengths on the bigger sizes...obviously better turning speed, more immediate control...but does that trump the larger/longer power stroke you get from longer lines....what are the main reasons for this "move".

Thanks.

acampbell - 12-11-2008 at 08:08 AM

HQ-USA is the US distributor for PL and they have not heard yet.

Yeah the Reacors are my most often reached-for kites in my bag (trailer) and I have a lot to choose from...

BeamerBob - 12-11-2008 at 08:26 AM

That is a nice looking kite for sure. I know the originals are fine predictable buggy engines. They like you to put them low and go. I can't wait to get to try one or 2 out.

tridude - 12-11-2008 at 10:12 AM

Bob, you need a twinskin experience but back on topic a great looking kite.

B-Roc - 12-11-2008 at 10:18 AM

what about the Twister or the Viper? anyone in the states flown those?

I am so averse to lift right now that I'd almost be afraid to hook into one of those huge wings. That is why these Reactor II's are interesting. It is not fun to be cruising along in the buggy and get lifted out of the seat. Go to kite killers you say? That just slams you down and twists ankles and stuff. Next time I'll ditch the buggy and keep the kite thank you. I'm really looking forward to getting to a beach with a steady onshore wind (or at least almost onshore) that I can power up a suitable kite without so much fear of leaving the buggy. I guess technique can control alot of the lift tendencies but then again, I don't get strong smooth winds up here and most of the time not enough to be able to zip the zipper and fly. My first flight with the Blurr had me almost out of the seat twice because uncharacteristic gusts suddenly made me wish I had the 5m up there instead of the 7 and the Blurr isn't supposed to have lift. At my local sites, I tend to have to keep the kite high for cleaner wind which opens me up to getting lifted in the gusts. I'm a little scared right now, a month out of injuring my ankle and I'm only about 80% healed. Must've chipped bone on the inside and torn something on the outside. I can walk fine but a twist would probably make me pass out. I'll shut up now.

I happened to be on Browersdamm in Holland as Ozzy was testing the 8.6 (yep there are new sizes) all I can say is this thing was kicka##.
He was riding almost directly into the wind without a problem and when he powered up along the coastline it took off like a Race kite.
I was talking to one of the team about the kite and they said it is still an intermedite but real close to being a Racer. They split the sizes so there are not such large jumps between the larger sizes. They hope to have the testing done this year so the kite should be on the market next spring early summer BUT they are in no rush and will first bring the kite out when they are 100% happy with it.
He also told me that the color combo seen in the picture will not be avialable. its only for testing.

i knew it:flaming: by todays standards, a two/three yr old anything is an old model. let me guess, II's will have AoA adjustment:megan:
ahh well. I still like my new (old) Reactor.

Hey Krohn...Thanks for the update...can't wait to fly it!

Hey BB - I hadn't heard about your injury...what exactly happened. BTW, from my experience...I am slowly going to make the 'jump' (pun intended) to lifty kites but I will not fly them inland...it's just way to risky in my inland winds which sound a lot like yours. I am also very careful taking out even the Reactors in our North winds which are often gusty and very unpredictable in turns of speed. I think you will like the twinskins...just amazing kites but again, I will not fly those in my inland park...hell, I don't even fly hooked in inland just in case I need to release quickly. And yeah, those Blurr's can be lifty as well...Hope you get better soon!

End of Hijack!

its still in testing ... and knowing PL, they will not release a product until its finalized. your reactor will still be NEW for awhile.

i skype with ozzy and ruudje (a few times a week) ... so i'll get more info. i just posted the pics to get you drooling first. actually lots of new toys for the coming season. POSTING SOON.

sort of sucks that USA and Canada know things last, good thing we've got neighbors on the other side of the ocean to rely stuff to us ahead of time. FORUMS are great!!!

tridude - 12-11-2008 at 06:43 PM

thanks for the pic/update Rip, great looking kite....any successor to the Synergy coming out this season?

revpaul - 12-11-2008 at 09:06 PM

not to mention the new PL Race buggy and the new carbon fiber (flexible for jumping) rear axle.

No successor to Synergy , but the new twinskin is due out later this season. Prototype will be at NABX along with Reactor II

I tried to get more out of them on the new twinskin but they are keeping pretty mum until they know they have a release date.

Reactor II is supposed to be faster with thinner bridles and fewer of them....

ripsessionkites - 7-3-2009 at 04:15 AM

thanks to teamrider Ozzy and some transation, here is some info:

The Core Kite sits between a HQ Beamer and Hornet.

Previously, PL kites have been known for their lesser quality, however since Michel Decker leading the design and distribution handled by Vliegerop, its now top notch.

The Reactor is in direct competition with the Libre Vampir 2.
The Reactor II has a higher AR than the Reactor I, and has less bridle lines.

The Vapor sits as a full race kite, that will compete well against Libre's Spirit / Ozone Yaks etc. The kite features thin bridle lines, that are sewn.

Going by statements on other forums, there will be a price increase of 8% or so from the Reactor I to II series.

Thx Angus for bring some RII demos, and Team Dutch will have some Vapors too.

PS. Jellis bring a Vampir II, please
