It's 27 degree farenheit in Boston

KiteProject - 22-11-2008 at 11:30 AM

but it feels like 14 degree farenheit (per weather.com). So, here I am stuck indoors and I am miserable. I want to fly my kites but I am afriad if I go out my nose will freeze.

What do you do when you want to kite and got nowhere to go.

Miserable.

I had yesterday off from work- Thursday I had all intentions of loading the buggy and heading out to Mayflower Beach on Friday morning. Low tide was at 11:55 am- north winds 15-20 mph. Then I woke up and saw the 25* temp!!

I had visions of frozen snot and my feet covered in frozen salt spray and chickened out! I was really concerned about the bearings grease freezing up and causing damage.

So I stayed at home and watched the idiot box and was perfectly happy!!:bigok:

Well, I have been surfing the web and looking at kite videos and kite store fronts. I tell ya, it's not healthy. I am planning additions to my kite quiver: new kites and ways of raising capital to finance them. :D So, if my dreams do materialize, I know which kites are making it to the "For Sale" forum.

We had an amazing weekend at Nahant just 2 weeks ago. At one point, 10 kites in the sky and people boarding/buggying up and down the beach.

It really isn't that cold out as long as you're dressed for it. Come on, you guys are from New England and you're crying about 25 degrees!? How do you survive the winter? I take it you don't snowkite. :dunno:

The wind was too crazy today though. 25mph gusting to 40.

KiteProject - 22-11-2008 at 04:47 PM

No, I can tolerate those temps but dont' want my nose to freeze and then snap from my face in high winds. :D

Seriously, I went for my daily run in 25 degrees and returned after a 1/4 of a mile. Nose got too cold.

The worst part of my "weaselness" is that I lived in New Hampshire and Vermont for 10 years and worked on the top of Killington in -35 to -45 BELOW ZERO degree weather and actually enjoyed it!!

I have the proper gear to keep me warm but it was the initial kick in the pants to get me going that I could not muster! Maybe I need to do a little "Man VS Wild" to get my balls back!
Monday looks like a good day to start...............high of 50!!!!

dgkid78 - 22-11-2008 at 05:55 PM

I went out today at 9am Sunny 25 degrees, feels like 4 degrees and the wind was blowing 14mph gusting to 23mph......not my ideal with what i got. :Ange09: Kite went up and completly depowered and all and i still felt overpowered. I hate gusts...especially in the 20+ mph so down she came and i was soooooo cold i parked the kite on the frozen grass ran back to my car turned on the heat and warmed up,,,,then ran back and packed up.......this all happened in a 12 min span. LOL 20 min drive for nothing. haha at least i only paid $1.80 a gal to fill my tank. i can't remember last time i paid that. Tomorrow's another day. hopefully a good one. I havn't had a good session in 3 weeks

Well today was low 80's in the SFV (San Fernando Valley) but no wind...All spring and summer I was out in the afternoon riding (granted, only 6-13mph) on average, but at least there was wind. But the last month it seems, the valley has gotten nothing above 5mph.

...so which is better...cold and wind or hot and windless??? I think right now I'd fly in just about anything!

...Desert looks light tomorrow and Oxnard is forecasting 9mph and mid to high 60's.

10m Yakuza and landboard...guess L.A. ain't too bad : )

Now that the arctic freeze will be moving off shore tonight. Tomorrow i will be flying in the upper 40's thank you!!

I will be flying static on the south part of the Cape due to the southern winds- I need to get some good confidence building jumps in- I have not had a good 10 footer in a while.

Thats the good thing about Cape Cod- I am 10 minutes to either south or north facing beaches.

I just scammed some good remixes off of youtube and have loaded the cell phone and charged the Motorola S3's. Now I better layoff these Margarita's that I have been slurping tonight!!:wee:

We had 75 degrees and 5-10 onshore winds at the pre-event for Dbbb. I had a shorty on and was tearing the waves up in the kitecat with the 19m venom....................aj

Can't believe there is a thin layer of ice on the ponds already - but I suppose the rain tonight will kill that. Hopefully we'll have a better winter this year than last.

Hope to see you at Nahant before that though. After Thanksgiving my weekends are finally more available to me :wee:
