New kite - help please.

bryant87 - 27-11-2008 at 11:04 AM

Hi,

I posted a topic yesterday saying that I have recently upgraded from a flexifoil super 10 to an HQ Beamer III 7m. When I recieved the kite I realised it is way too big, and I am going to exchange it.
Can anyone please recommend what kite I should get. I want to progress to a four line kite and want more power than my super 10.

Thanks,

Dan

My friend has this kite:

I've flown it on handles, I would recommend the bar, it's way too twitchy for handles. Plus if you ever move up to surf kites, you'll want to be used to a bar.

But it's a great kite! Not too much lift, but it also doesn't leave you wanting more, it's right in the middle. Nice and comfortable, and with the safety the bars have, you'd be good. :eureka:

What will help is to know what you want this kite to do for you ?

The Beamer is a great kite for learning and static flying. If you don't intend on doing more than that then a Beamer to compliment your other Beamer makes sense. 3m is a good size. It will allow you to fly in the highest of winds + be the perfect kite for introducing friends to the sport. It will start to be fun at about the wind speed that your 7m is too much to handle !

If you want to progress to buggy, you want a low lift , low aspect kite. ( flexifoil Blurr or Rage) If you want to jump then you will want a High lift, high aspect kite. ( flexifoil Blade )

I would eventually like to start boarding. I think I will stick to a 3m, but just unsure of which kite. Should I stick to a Beamer?

The Beamers are a good deal from a price point ! They come as a complete package so you won't need an extra set of kite killers.

Matching the Beamer you already have with another makes some good sense.

The 3m Beamer is a very popular kite. If it ends up being one you want to sell you should have no problem doing so. Most people keep there 3m Beamers so resale can be done easy with minimal loss!

The kite that you may want to replace in the future is more likely to be the 7m Beamer ? Once you get riding + jumping you may want a bit more lift than it will provide ? The 7m won't be near as easy to resell. This is why exchanging it while you can is worth considering ?
