Safety

So there I was this weekend flyin' my blaze II. I don't have anything special for an emergency release except for the "emergency release" which is on the chicken loop (it's a red nob that i pull). I found myself on my back with my feet facing away from the kite trying to make sure that my kite didn't go into the powerzone. I was a bit scared for a bit till I was able to wobble my way back around.

How do I avoid this? Should I have deployed my emergency release? I was flying pretty well powered up for my first time (my 10m foil in 15mph gusting to 18mph). I know that if it had gone into the window and a gust woulda hit me I would have flown way down the field.

Should I be more "emergency release happy"? Or should I attempt to recover like I did.

I always suggest that people practice flying sitting on there butt facing backwards and blind as part of their learning curve. At some point you are going to find yourself in that position so it is best to practice.

You will find yourself in this position a LOT on water ! ( or at least I do )

So... 2 options.... practice or pull the pin !

When in doubt, pull the pin. Had a friend that got pulled backward and broke three ribs trying to hold on, big mistake.
Pull the pin and start again.

IMHO
