event schedule

hi guys last year we had to leave saturday night around 8 pm to make our flight to get home was wondering if its possible to push it up a day and have the dinner + raffle on the friday.just want to put it out there to see if it is an option i understand if it cannot. thanks for considering my request.

would like to thank Blake and the helpers that made racing happen last year I had a blast I'm looking forward to racing again, would really love to do the enduro this year, team road kill 2002 could be resurected , with some replacements.

Mark Groshens and I are planning to attend the pre event saturday and sunday at superior either we'll sleep over on the dessert or drive out to a hotel in barstow sat night and return sunday.
how uncomfortable would it be to camp out there with limited supplies, sleeping bag only

the Big Dinner, awards, Auction, playoff, and spectacle will be on Friday night.

Racing is going to happen if we have favorable conditions. An Enduro if we have both interest and conditions.

I can't imagine you needing much more for camping than what you mentioned, after all, it is us. Kites make great sleeping bags, most important is something between you and the ground, though both Will and Dave seemed to like the plain ol' playa.

The white tent is up before our event. The land sailors are there a week before us and they use it for there event too.

How long have you been chasing the wind?

I have never, and i've been chasing since second grade, never, had Earl ever listen to me about anything!

Nothing could be worse, IMHO than to try and schedule Earl. All that happens is we waste time, and he laughs.

Be aware, keep your head up. If you see a vehicle on the lake bed realize that we are setting up a course, and come check it out ASAP. Racing could take place with in an hour, so keep your self ready if that is how you like to roll.

If you are new to the lake beds, let me tell you, the wind can do what ever it likes on any given day, so sorry if this feels like some sort of american plot to get you to loosen up, it ain't, just fact.

So, loosen up, check in every day, talk to me, and to Slawek, and KNOW, there will be races no matter what!

Hey Deanaoxo,
I made my first NABX last spring and had a ball. Buggying there is like nowhere else I have done it. You are absolutely right. Alot of NABX is hanging out in the mornings getting your gear ready and waiting for the winds to crank up. Everyone is at the wind's mercy.
What I am seeing here is a desire to have some sort of outline as to the weeks events. Would it help to form a race committee to help schedule the events and track the results in the tent? I am sure there are racers that would be willing to help in the planning and execution. (I myself, am not a racer, other than shot cars)
A schedule could simply be list of events planned.
1)Enduro Race Thursday Afternoon Racers meeting 11:00 in tent
2)Big Supper Friday Night at 6:30PM in the tent
3)Shot Car Races -Meet in the tent nightly at 7:00PM?
4)Look For Stupid Dave Tricks Thursday and Friday Afternoons by the ramp- wind permitting
5)NPW Race Friday afternoon Racers meeting Friday morning at 11:00 in tent

This list could be posted in the tent and the events could be checked off as they are completed, or tentavely given a time they are hoped to be accomplished. I think everyone on this forum can understand nothing has to be set in concrete. But some sort of guide would be helpful.
I will be in Thursday night and Friday night only. If the Big Dinner is going to be Friday night, that suits me fine. I will be very interested in the shot car races the Thursday and Friday night. If I knew what time to show up with my cars, I'll be there. Fredagie, since it seems you are the designated host for shot car races this year, I'd be proud to be on your race committee and help with the shot car races Thursday and Friday night.
Not trying to be a buttinsky, but as a true rookie to NABX last year, I was kind of lost and not aware of all of the events. A loose schedule would be very helpful to NABX attendees.

Sure, see me on tuesday, we'll set it up.

Know this however, we will try to race every day, since we don't know what the next day will bring.

IF YOU SEE VEHICLES ON THE LAKE BED, COME CHECK IT OUT!

ONE HOUR MINIMUM NOTICE FOR THE NEXT RACE!

If you leave the lake bed, it's your responsibility, no one else s, no excuses if we race and you are not there.

We are making every attempt this year to provide complete service for all day on the lake, EVERY DAY!

Many surprises this year, we have a full service krewe for you this year, so come check in, find out what's going on this year, hang out, volunteer, help out, hang out, hang loose, have fun.

If you haven't been before, or participated before. It's cool. Just keep your ears out and if you hear the 'word' SPREAD IT LIKE WILDFIRE, 'no pun intended for CA residents'.

Visit the Tent often or find Swav or Dean for INFO.

What lines are you reading between?

I believe it's about paying attention to what we have, at any given time, not about making schedules.
Schedules are not based in reality and tend to confuse rather than enlighten.
So no further input is required on that specific subject.

The list you offered looks fine, after removing the specific days and times.

Making schedules regarding the wind is like teaching a pig to play the piano.
An exercise in futility... AND it annoys the pig.

I know we like schedules.
We like to know what is happening and where and when so we don't miss anything.
"Wanting" simply isn't a part of the wind equation.
It's all about paying attention.
Dealing with our reality.

Use the Beaufort scale to watch for wind.
One of the reasons so many of us like to put up feathers, flags and banners.
They help us see the wind.

One of the absolute pleasures of the kite game is the added awareness to our environment it helps develop. The wind is not TV and doesn't adhere to a schedule.

You notice the flags etc are starting to move, other buggiers are getting their gear and starting to set-up, the land sailers are beginning to move about, a vehicle appears out on the lakebed with a couple folks standing nearby...
If I were you, I'd start getting ready as it looks like racing may happen soon.

That's how we must run events out here in the Mojave Desert.
Conditions are very changeable.
Not everyone understands this.
We don't control our power source.
We must be aware and ready to play, if that's how it is.
It's a game of opportunity.

We try to take it in stride and work with the wind, not against it.

Just a few random thoughts.

The between the lines I was referring to is that I stated plainly I would be in Thursday and Friday and Deano asked me to see him on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the plane I am flying in on has a schedule and it does not include Tuesday.

Sorry I didn't realize you were taking dean literally.
Or assuming he even remembered you weren't arriving til Thursday.

Just check in at the tent or find dean or swavek when you do arrive.

I do believe the rest of us caught on.
We understand dean.
Even if he is a little bit different.

We do different pretty well.

You touched on an aspect of playa-life and buggytown that few notice.
We come "from" a land of schedules. A man-made world full of man-made stuff.
We come "to" a place where sunrise and sunset are the most significant times of a day.
Some need a few days to just to unwind and relax. To get over the city.
The down-side is that after a few days, the event is over.

Good side of living here (vegas sucks) is the regular access to Ivanpah.
That lake bed has become my happy place.
Feeling a bit ornery?
An afternoon on my buggy has been known to do wonders for my mood.

So y'all are welcome to come and find your own happy place.
There's lots of room.

Stop by and share some stories.
I'm usually at city hall most all day.

Maybe, if the wind is right, I might even buggy.

Deano, thanks for the reply. We are good.
I am not trying to change NABX. I truly am a guest here. I will always be a humble guest. I don't have time to buggy as often as I should, for I am in the world of schedules. This "schedules" is my comfort zone.
I went to the BVI one time about 16 years ago. The drink of choice there is "painkiller, mon". I was there for 3 days before I finally got on "island time". I do understand where you guys are coming from. You want to keep this event loose and casual. The only problem is it has gone international and there are folks coming from a long distance that would like to know what to expect when they get there. I will only make NABX for 3 days, not enough time to get on "island time". The wiews on this thread "event schedule" number 545 at the time of this writing. The only three other topics that have more views on the top of the page are "Shot cars" @ 721, "Hotel Info" @ 1217 and "I fix bugie in NABX" by my hero , fredagie @ 2085 (Fast Freddie, I will bring you beer of choice on Thursday night, also Deanoaoxo) It is obvious the 4 items that are most important on peoples minds, "Fast Freddie", "Hotel Info", "Shot Cars" and "Event Schedule" In that order. I personally would have thought shot cars more important than hotel info. Oh Great Lama, I will see you either Monday or Tuesday next week at your shop. We will have great discussion.

OK.
If THAT is what you call "playing the piano" then we have bigger issues.
Truthfully, I love the pig reference - So timely. So appropriate.

If you think THAT in any way proves a point or wins an argument, you're sadly mistaken.
Or don't know the difference between noise and music.
I could discern no melody, no rhythm, none of the characteristics of what the rest of us call music.
Merely a pig with a nose for the keyboard.

Certainly annoyed me!

The real issue here is schedules.
And wanting.

If that were only enough.

So we have an opportunity to live in that other world for a week.
To follow the sun and the wind.
To practice paying attention to the environment.

We know how to pay attention to our wants.
This week is practice paying attention to our surroundings - To what we have.

Make yourself a schedule, if you like.
Try to check off as many events or experiences as you like.
Get involved on the days you're here to help events happen.

Bringing the idea that things will happen at certain times is a sure way to be disappointed.
So we get to practice for the week to do it differently.
By consciously not making schedules, it is hoped folks will notice and learn to watch the conditions rather than a watch.

Great Lama,
Just wait til you see the schedule I have planned for Vegas next week!
(I know, I know, two things you hate, Vegas and schedules). I will say, though, at the top of my schedule, it says "subject to change by anybody at anytime". I've got the Vegas trip (in my opinion) to beat all Vegas trips planned w/ one day saved for Mt. Charleston and Red Rock Canyon. I will explain all of that further to you over beers or your favorite whiskey (I'll buy) at NABX, if you are interested.

I thought the pig sounded pretty good the other night. I wasn't serious about it being the basis of winning an argument.

Additionally, when I wrote that, I was practicing for the shot car races. Trying different fuel mixtures. The pig souded better as the night went on...................
