First parked ride

johnnylaing - 28-1-2009 at 09:58 PM

I got some today! I had my first ride in my PL bug with the kite parked off my shoulder...out on the bar, nobody around! This is really gonna interfere with work. Thanks to Angus and Peter!! I think I also did an accidental emergency stop.

Welcome to the world of wind junkies. Other people I know hate the wind and all I can think of is, did I leave the kites in the truck and ski's are behind the seat...lol
Take your time and learn the basics, when you can ride backward as good as forward your half way there.
I'm sure if your around Angus your in good hands, hope someday to get down and buggy with you guys.
Just have to throw this in there, safety gear is a must, always protect yourself and have fun.

Cheers

I'm an accomplished windsurfer that began landsailing with a windsurf rig on an Earthboard a few years ago...Great fun, and a good tool for practice...made me a really good sailor. I spent lots of that time with a local, Elijah, who has a PL bug and a couple of Ozones...Only recently I took a spin in his bug (after some time on a trainer) and was hooked. I had a bug in less than two weeks and started asking Angus an endless stream of questions! This is fun! Playing in the wind over twenty years so far and it doesn't look like I'll get out alive!

Johnny, are you local to Angus? I saw you were able to make the Amelia Island trip, and we are having one the weekend before here local to me in Aiken, SC.

I'm close to Angus.. I live on Saint Simons...

PHREERIDER - 29-1-2009 at 08:54 PM

good spot!

that would make nice downwinder from sea island to jekyll...

cruise the sound on a NNE to E.

is there a good launch spot on sea island on the south end?

johnnylaing - 29-1-2009 at 11:03 PM

Sea Island is private...but we have a group of kiteboarders here and a really nice spot...Angus could hook you up with Rob, the local kiteboarder with great knowledge of the area...I can tell you about windsurfing here, but you really want to talk to Rob about kiting conditions...

PHREERIDER - 30-1-2009 at 06:31 AM

Hey John!

Greg here...I'm the guy from the beach the other day that was predicting you'd become a hardcore kiter and sell all your windsurfing gear! I had no idea you were a pro...sorry man. Hope I didn't diss you. Windsurfing is cool...that's where I started. We'll look forward to seeing you at the beach with the kites now that you have the bug!

johnnylaing - 30-1-2009 at 11:25 AM

Hey Greg!

No problem! I'm excited to add the kitebuggy to my trick bag! See you in Amelia??

kitedog - 30-1-2009 at 03:43 PM

Can't do it unfortunately. I'm off to CA on the 16th so that would be pushing it. I will be going to Aiken if the weather pans out on the 7th. You'll see me in Jekyll too. I love that place.
