Cooking Lake Kite Fest - Feb 7/8

macboy - 3-2-2009 at 12:19 AM

The FS guys are gearing up for the weekend, sadly the wind looks like it's going to be elsewhere. Still, I'll be out there 11-4 Saturday and likely 2-dark Sunday.

(Sorry for the big pic)

....oh yeah, and rumor has it Mike was out on the lake clearing a parking lot so we can drive right out to those docks AND he's scooping up a big kicker with the backhoe!

Just got off the phone with Vince. He's expecting a couple Apexes and a 14m Neo to arrive just in time for the weekend (with no wind). Also got in touch with a sports writer from the Edm Sun that I met out at Lake Louise and he wants to come out and grab a kite. I told him if he shows up with a camera Mike would surely show him all the best of Flysurfer and then when that's over with he can come find us and grab some other bags too. The dude's over the top, living a surfer's life in a snowboarder's world - you gotta meet him ; )

Even if it's a stinker I'll be out there for the camaraderie. 10 knots predicted for sunrise, dropping after that so I might just try to get out extra early to play before the wind dies.

yep, doesn't happen often but it's bed early on friday.
14m Neo ought to do someth'n sat. hopefully wind is better than predicted.

I'll drive up for the day Saturday - it will be great to finally meet all of you.

What is the best route from the QE2?

Hwy 14 east. You'll see the road into the town site, just go east about another 1 1/2 Km and the road turns into the left. Little sign on road says Cooking Lake Sailing Club.
If you want I can U2U a cell number just in case..lol
Be nice to meet up, all should be there.

Yup - looking more and more like a social gathering as opposed to a flying day. 6-8 knots for Saturday, 4-8 for Sunday ; (

We can all look at the pretty Silverarrows.

Doesn't change my plans. Gonna go hang out just the same.

canuck - 4-2-2009 at 11:50 PM

You guys can try the "big green machine" - 6-8 knots should be enough for the XXXL

I should be there by 10:30 or 11:00

I've been on and off about setting up the shelter out there but perhaps I'll set it up without the bug screen flaps) so you can find us easily. It's an orange wedge shaped thing with two open sides. I'll try to be there early to make sure it's set up. I'll bring a few camp chairs too. If nothing else it'll give us a place to stash our stuff as we wait in line for the sauna ; )

WolfWolfee - 5-2-2009 at 06:06 PM

No beer for me, prefer Rye...lol Scorpions is here tomorrow or so they say, frothing at the mouth to get it. Vince said he'll be out hopefully with some Apex and Neo's should be fun.
Hey Mac, with all these PL's in the sky we'll make our own wind...lol

macboy - 5-2-2009 at 06:39 PM

If it looks real bad there's always leftover Superbowl chili to make wind ; )

Too far?

hehehehhee

At little wind when I arrived at 11:30 but tapered off to nothing. Flysurfers boys couldn't get the Silver Arrows to stay up come 1:00. we hung around till 3:00 then left. Wind was not bad between 9 and 11 we were told. We brought our buggies out today but got wind skunked. The snow on the lake had a hard enuff top crust that it would of been a blast bugging. Other than about a ten minute run traveling about 2 mph, no bugging was done. Should of had them buggs out yesterday all those news crews out and the nice winds we would have turned some heads for sure.
