Anybody gonna be around? If the forecast holds, I'll be out on either Sat or Sun (still deciding).

sunset-Jim - 4-3-2009 at 07:08 PM

Of course I'll be out there. Just got back in from the beach and (not meaning to rub it in) it was a killer afternoon. Other than the fact that somebody beat me to it and laid down a bunch of landboarding tracks. I do have my suspicions (ELI) but I won't mention any names.

Hoping that the conditions today is a sign of things finally turning around.

arkay - 4-3-2009 at 10:06 PM

I'll be flying for sure. Wanted to fly last weekend but that never really happened. I'd love to meet up with folks... all the other kiters from Manzanita flew off to warmer weather; it's like they don't like cold, wet easterlies or something

csa_deadon - 5-3-2009 at 02:54 AM

Hmmmm, will have to tell the wife that I have to see a man about lawnmower parts!

archkiter - 5-3-2009 at 01:17 PM

Now the forecast is looking a bit more wet.... Maybe *they* will change it again tomorrow...

Sure sounds like spring doesn't it...:P

I'll probably bring the trailer out if it's looking like hit-n-miss showers for that we'll have some quick cover. Keep your fingers crossed.

arkay - 6-3-2009 at 12:05 PM

where do you usually setup?

Around here, north, south? ... look in the sky for kites ;)

I hope to head up mid-morning and stay through the low tide. Anyone feeling Saturday or Sunday yet?

vwbrian - 6-3-2009 at 12:10 PM

I am going to try to make it on Sunday. Not sure on what time I will be there.

sunset-Jim - 6-3-2009 at 03:08 PM

Let's make it for sunday. The weather looks more promising and also something came up for me for tomorrow. High school girls basketball finals are tomorrow. And before anybody makes any "Chester" jokes... lol, My son's gf is the starting point guard and depending on todays game, will be either playing for the championship or 3rd/4th.

It's lookin great out there right now, so I might as well go play for awhile.

Any locals, I'll be out there.

csa_deadon - 6-3-2009 at 10:03 PM

Think I'll be up there on Sunday. Will have to bring the skis', since I am still buggyless till at least the 23rd of this month.

archkiter - 6-3-2009 at 10:52 PM

Yep tomorrow's weather doesn't look too promising and not worth the drive....Sunday is looking like a maybe for me.

OOOPS! I quoted the wrong one. That was meant for csa. I do have an extra buggy. With the nice buggy Stacey has, I know she wouldn't be interested in this one...smile

And yes I do have Wolkenstrumer Electra 6.8m that is available to demo. Pretty nice stable kite with aoa adjustments.

arkay - 7-3-2009 at 10:57 AM

Wow... 45*, wind today is NW 18 / 24 / 31 :shocked2:

Cloudy, but no hard rain in Manzanita. Barometer 30.30 and falling... radar looks ok may it'll turn out to be a good day just a bit cold... I'll be kiting today unless the weather goes to crap but I'll just follow the flock and plan to stay in Manzanita today and head up the coast tomorrow to sunset beach.

csa_deadon - 7-3-2009 at 03:23 PM

Jim, thanks for the offer to borrow a buggy. Hoping to hook up with Jon before he heads out for NABX.
Weather permiting I'll be heading out from Newport around 9am.

I'll be sacrificing a couple of my old fiberglass spars to the weather gods tonight. Hope it helps.

arkay - 7-3-2009 at 04:48 PM

good consistent wind today... never actually flew just played candyland inside :) intermittent hail and mist, but overall a reasonable day. I'll be doing a "clear sky & clean wind" offering at sunset.

sunset-Jim - 8-3-2009 at 08:15 AM

Well folks, it's a gamble. Forecast calls for rain turning to showers, but it's not looking too bad at the moment. On several occasions I have seen it go either way with such a forecast. Can be a washout or some really NICE riding in-between some intermittent showers. There definitely is some snow in the mountains though.

I plan on still being out on the beach today, so for any of you brave souls and gamblers, cya out there.

arkay - 8-3-2009 at 09:19 AM

In Manzanita, there was some good hail last night and when I woke up this morning we were being pelted with more hail. So there was a 1/8" layer of hail on the roof tops and ground... looked pretty for those 30 minutes but it has since stopped and is almost melted already. Currently no rain to speak of; wind looks like it's picking up already. Radar is pretty clear, but forecast is green. Probably is the hi 30-low 40s. I'll likely still come up. Depending on the rest of the clans disposition and weather there's always downtown, the arcade, and outlets! (or at least that's my angle)

archkiter - 8-3-2009 at 09:55 AM

Well I've decided not to chance it today and stay home and get some work done on a few projects around the house instead.

There ya go. We did just have a nice snow shower that lasted about 5 minutes and now blue skies... No doubt a hat trick for weather.

I realized I never answered your question about meet up location, just a half mile up from your dot on the map. I'll probably be out around 1ish.

arkay - 8-3-2009 at 12:45 PM

sun came through the heavens... there's just no wind down here :) Hopefully there'll be something! I'm packing and should be up there about 1:30.

sunset-Jim - 9-3-2009 at 06:49 AM

Thanks to all who did make it out...the gamble paid off

I had a great time, let's do it again on the 21/22.

arkay - 9-3-2009 at 09:59 AM

Certainly a fun day and it was great to meet everyone! Can't wait until the next meet! The day was surprising as there was just a little rain and the sun actually came out. I got started getting nervous as I was driving up the coast in a whiteout hail storm, but it cleared right before cannon beach!

One important lesson I learned, is that I need a bigger kite :singing:

archkiter - 9-3-2009 at 11:53 AM

Well looks like I gambled and lost... hoping for good weather next weekend as well as the 21st.... glad you guys got to have some fun :)

csa_deadon - 10-3-2009 at 12:27 AM

Jim, was good to see ya again. Thanks for allowing to pick your brain one more time. Gonna pick up the hardcore on the 23rd. arkay, vwbrian, it was good to meet you and yours. Archkiter, sorry you lost the gamble, we missed ya.

arkay - 12-3-2009 at 09:49 AM

Here are my tracks... I had the gps in my pocket so you can see me pacing back and fourth when there wasn't enough wind. GPS says 5 miles total, that's with walking, maps looks like about 2.5 miles; guess I got some exercise!
