How to build kite skates - instructions and parts

doomwheels - 9-12-2004 at 02:46 AM

Here is a recap post for those recently asking how to build kite skates and where to find wheels and metal parts.

Instructions for how to convert your old inline skates into kite skates are posted here (look for a more detailed update early next year):
http://www.doomwheels.com/articles/buildwod.php

Also look for plenty of pics in the kite skating photo album.

There are several companies with wheels and parts for sale listed at the Kite Skating Resource site:
http://www.kiteskating.com

However, my favorite for wheels and skate rails is
McMaster-Carr Supply Co.:
http://www.mcmaster.com
Skate rails- part #8910K178
Wheels and tires- pages #1198-1199
Direct sales online, no minimums.

I am currently building a big-wheel set with a long wheel base for top speed and long distance, plus a standard set for my wife who started skating at SBBB 2003.

It's pretty exiting to hear about all the new skaters getting involved around the world. Hope you will post your experiences here. Kite Skating rocks!

Any local hardware store should do fine. For spacers, you can buy .5 inch diameter PVC or aluminum tube and cut it with a hacksaw.
