beach tires, whats your favorite

Dagon - 9-3-2009 at 11:18 AM

what is your favorite tread for hard packed sand?
I like ribbed (grooved) the best but I tried sawtooths yesterday and it reallly helped with the traction to avoid the side pull when going upwind, but it had too much bite when I would slide out to slow down. when I would slide the buggy would rattle as the tires skidded through the sand.

I've only used standard barrow tires and the PL wide tires (flat and wide); both have straight ribs. I like the wide tires on the beach for the extra traction. Never had a problem with shedding speed or chattering.

@Rip do you mean Kenda Beach racers? when yea bring another set of tires with you and when you get sick of the drag that those thing have you can put on the other tires.

The only use that we have found for those things is when the sand is really soft I mean REALLY soft like sand dunes but even then you stay on top of the sand but you still have the bulldozer effect.

They are just too wide and are really square. The Eurotrax are just as wide but they are more egg shaped so they have a smaller area actually touching the ground when the sand is more hard packed and by soft sand they don't sink in that much.
That is at least our experence with the beach racer. Every beach is diffrent and maybe you find one where these tires work good.

16 x 6 square profile smooth tires are sooooo nice on hardpack sand! They slide nicely (no jittering or hopping) - way better than barrows. Have plenty of traction when you need it. Lighter and less spendy than bigfoots.
