Ozone Flow 5m What do I keep?

firewirepl - 11-3-2009 at 11:26 PM

Hey guys,

I have a problem. I have these 2 kites and don't know what one to keep. I want about 3-4 kites in my quiver for my buggy riding. I will be getting a 3.5 kite (not sure if i want a another sprint, blurr, or flow), Have a 5m, and a 9m pansh ace.

I have 2 kites in the 5m range. I want a powerful kite to pull me along. I know the sprint is race and has more cells but what about the sprint or flow, what If I also wanted to jump a little besides cruise with it?

What one do you guys think I should keep?

heliboy50 - 12-3-2009 at 04:15 AM

So you have an ace, flow and sprint, all in 5m? I think the ace is going to be the most lifty. From what I have heard, it is kind of a blade knock off (no insult to Pansh intended- bang for the buck factor.) You can never go wrong with ozone, IMHO. As for the 3.5, I will be getting a blurr in that size in the not so distant future. The flow seems like a good kite (again, I looked hard at these, until the huge price drop on the blurr), but if you want speed in a buggy it isn't as fast as some others.

ozones are better kites and will fly under more conditions than a pansh will. keep the flow,

kiteNH - 12-3-2009 at 05:12 AM

Keep the one that you like to fly better.

tridude - 12-3-2009 at 06:19 AM

dump both and go with an arc:lol:

Ive owned a couple Ozones and for an all rounder v the Sprint (A racekite) Id say keep the Ozone unless your a straight up bug racer. But again, my first suggestion would work too.......................
:lol::duh::duh:

^^^^ what he said !!

firewirepl - 12-3-2009 at 08:51 AM

I would get more power out of the sprint versus the flow right, since its a race kite? Just that it won't be as good all around...

DAKITEZ - 12-3-2009 at 09:21 AM

I'm unclear do you have the kites or are you deciding on what kite to get?

firewirepl - 12-3-2009 at 10:46 AM

I have both of them

revpaul - 12-3-2009 at 01:36 PM

if you have experience and fly/buggy with clean winds (beaches) then an all-arounder(more stable/less jam) will not be needed as much as one who flies inland (gusty/changey).
you'll get better upwind performance (more able to go where you'd like to go) from a high AR (race kite) kite.

firewirepl - 12-3-2009 at 04:04 PM

IM in the midwest so the winds are not that clean, im just looking for something that is most powerful i guess. Seems like i have more of unstable kite if i want the better upwind/power (sprint 5m)

Bladerunner - 12-3-2009 at 04:06 PM

Ozone has made paragliders for ? years.
Pansh makes ? and has time tested ??

You want to use this kite to jump in a buggy.

Umm..... I'd put my life an limb on the Paraglider company every time !

In terms of quality, performance, R&D, etc... - The Pansh can't hold a candle to Ozone. Cheaper kites are still great fun though (I have a few myself).

But more importantly! Why get rid of one of them at all! I mean, how much room does a folded up 5m kite take?!? COME ON!!!!

Keep em both. Keep the one you fly less in the trunk of your car (or glove compartment). If a bridle line happens to break on the one you're using, you still have a spare!

Remember - He who dies with the most toys, WINS! Look at some of the equipment lists of the guys (and gals) on this site! You still have a ways to go!

So unless your house is so full of multi-colored Dacron that you can't find your TV/bed/wife/kids, you actually have an OBLIGATION to have and keep as many kites as the good Lords allows! (CAN I HEAR AN AMEN?!?)

Now go forth and multipy.

Wow! Now I don't feel guilty about thinking about buying more kites that I don't really need even before all the ones I've bought even arrive. Bucky says I'm OBLIGATED. I'm actually being responsible here instead of needing a 12 step program.

AMEN. Bucky I like you more every day. You could be that friend my wife hates me to be around.

Bucky - 13-3-2009 at 10:51 AM

BLESS YOU, BROTHER BOB!

firewirepl - 13-3-2009 at 11:32 AM

Haha, nicely put Bucky...I just wanted to spread out my quiver before I start to multiply current sizes...

awindofchange - 13-3-2009 at 11:41 AM

Fly em both, keep the one that you like best. I am pretty sure that once you fly them side by side you will decide on the Flow. Ozone quality and performance is very hard to beat. Even though the Pansh is touted as a race kite with a higher aspect ratio, there is so much more that goes into a kites performance than aspect ratio. Quality of build, exactness of stitching, curvature of leading edge, size of vents, overall design of the wing, overall design of the bridles etc... The Flow will have all of these optimized and I am pretty sure that once you fly them side by side the Flow will match if not beat the performance of your others.

Another thing to remember is that Ozone does not cheap out on anything they produce, from the coatings of the material (which they do themselves in their own factory) right down to the way the bridle anchors are sewn into the kite as well as the bridle lines which are pre-tensioned, baked and locked so they don't stretch out over time (they also do this in house right along side of their paraglider bridles).

It would be one thing to fly them side by side right now when they are both brand new but...after 6-8 months of hard flying the Flow will continue to be perfect, just the way it is now and the others...well....take a look at how soon people start dumping these (cheap) kites on the forum...do they just get tired of them, maybe its because they get bored of the color...they're obviously not getting out of the sport so why dump the kite and purchase another kite of the exact same size????.......you can decide.

It all seems to come down to the old saying, "You get what you pay for".

BTW, I still have some friends that I buggy with regularly here on the lake beds that still fly those old Ozone "Little Devil's" which haven't even been in production for over 7 years now. That should tell you something about the quality and the performance of Ozone products. Not to mention how many euro racing championships that have been swept by Ozone Razors & Yakuza's.

The Flow just plain rocks. We've been seriously thinking of doing a "Pass The Flow" program...we're just worried that it wouldn't get passed along once someone flies it! lol

firewirepl - 13-3-2009 at 12:21 PM

Thanks windsofchange. Lots of info there. Anyone know of the cells and aspect ratios of the kites?

I know the sprint has 40 cells...(does this mean its more rigid?)

revpaul - 13-3-2009 at 02:53 PM

i think generally more cells can/does mean more rigidity but there are also internal re-enforcements/connections to help with that too.
i haven't owned a Pansh for more than 6 months so i can't compare but my 4.5m LD is about 7 yrs old and still cranks out the juice. like others have said, and Kent really touched on, in time the Ozone will be still kick a$$. don't let the term "all-a-rounder" mislead you. the LD is an "all-a-rounder" and it pulls haaaaaaarrrrrrrrdddddddd and faaaasssssssttt.:bigok:
*correct me if i'm wrong, the LD was replaced by the Samurai I then Sami II then the Cult and now the Flow. I seem to recall mention that the goal of the Flow designer(s) was to give it more performance of the original Little Devil.

macboy - 13-3-2009 at 04:41 PM

AMEN Bucky! (Now seems to be a good time then to confess the "new in bag" 18m Phantom Angus is hooking me up with [couldn't turn it down]....pretty much direct overlap in the old quiver but like the Flow vs. Sprint - the Venom and Phantom are two very different kites.)

"But Bucky said so!" I'll say to the wife. Think it'll work?

WolfWolfee - 13-3-2009 at 07:38 PM

You might want to duck when you say it....lol

Looking_Up - 16-3-2009 at 05:26 PM

:puzzled: it's a no brainer for me Ozone for Life

Like revpaul said the ozone little devil 4.5 will do anything you want I weigh 285 and if i am out in much over 15mph it will pick me straight up on the gust and with my board on the parking lot i can easily hit 30mph kinda scarry when u get a gust and i stay upwind

by the way amen buck

If you want a performance foil that is lifty and race inspired go with the frenzy It or the axcess will be my next kite they deal with the gust much better than the fixed bridles instill a much safer feeling:thumbup:

Do it Kent... you know you want to.

Would you consider it more seriously if we spontaneously broke out into some Gregorian chants? :saint:

How about a "wave?"

Hmmmm..... perhaps a ninja escort for the Flow to insure timely transitions :ninja: :wink2:

Sorry for the thread veer.... we now return you to your normal scheduled program.

ATB,
Sam

firewirepl - 17-3-2009 at 09:35 PM

I have to admit the pansh sprint has much more power and lift then the flow. The flow seems to be a large beamer.
