I know it's late editing this to share but better late than never . I had a much longer version that youtube cut with a 10 minute limit , then cut my short version because of music copyrights. So enjoy and make sure you "KNOW" for this year, Smile for my kid that's taking everyone's shot's enjoying this years event, for my next video. Bring your Shot Car ! :wee: http://www.vimeo.com/3619034

It worked great for me on an old laptop at work !
I either see my kite or Gregs for a second !

I enjoyed showing my workmates how many different ways there are to go about riding the wind. One of the things I enjoy most about NABX is the inclusive nature. If you ride the wind, you are " in " . Sharing the space and the wind with Land Sailors, Kitewingers, and all the different forms of powerkite riders is the experience I only get on my annual trip.

Man ,I had you and Greg both flying .I had to cut out alot of the crew to try and fit to you tube. My daughter didn't take the greatest shots also.

A great place.
Wish we had something like that in the UK.
We do have Morcambe bay , but have to wait for the tides to be right otherwise were kite sufin in a buggy, ..and its not flat either !, lots of channles to get wet and stuck in.

Crash - 15-3-2009 at 07:17 PM

Here in NY we have the same routine, waiting for low tide and winds south of the water.

sid-the-sloth - 16-3-2009 at 12:30 AM

Ha, wish, that WOULD be a REAL treat to go there. Nope sorry, funds wont allow. but its nice to watch and dream.

Crash,

Looking forward to get overthere,...nice vid,.must say... but a question,..
I see on some pictures, some dustdevils ? correct me if I am wrong, how do you handle them when driving thru it (with a kitebuggy)?, just hold on , or try to stay out of it ? or is it perfect to accelerate to higher speeds ?

regards,
Ozzy.

All thee above actually.

Most riders, with very few exceptions, avoid them as much as possible. If you do happen to get in front of one, there is obviously a great gust (time to hold on) and as long as you don't let it catch up with ya, you can really get the move on. Just do NOT let it catch up to ya or let it pass ya or in anyway get in the middle of it.

After writing this I think they should be renamed to something like "The Devil's Candy"... lol

oke, clear, but what happens if it catch you ? what kind of forces you are heading for then ?, kite in the face ?, or ripped into pieces, or lifted out of the seat (hmm difficult in a Apexx, and with my weigth of 125 kg,..)

sunset-Jim - 17-3-2009 at 08:14 AM

Not as difficult as one might think under those conditions. We are talking a mini-tornado here with some nasty, swirling thermals and plenty of lift to em.

ripsessionkites - 17-3-2009 at 12:50 PM

hey jim, we dont tell them ... and let them experience everything nabx. =) j/k

usually behind it or off to the side you lose wind, my kite just bags it up, and than when its gone it reinflates again UNDER power. lol.

if the kite is going through it gotta lift!!!! O-B-E!!!

like jimmy said, stay infront, and TURBO ----> SPEED. wooohooo, cant wait. EAT MY DUST, OZZY - ROFL!!!

Bladerunner - 17-3-2009 at 04:09 PM

Was it not a dust devil that picked up Jake and threw him down busting up his shoulder 2 years ago ? I wasn't there.

Crash - 17-3-2009 at 06:49 PM

If I remember it was just a thermal that gave him a outta buggy experience.

With an arc you can hunt them out and fly through them. Reached my top speed as a tandem with a 9m phantom, 54mph, that way. The kite just kinda goes "blurp, wobble" and goes on through.

Course, keep in mind that the kite is down low, so any excessive pull will be horizontal. And I'm in a monster buggy.
