quad comp xxxl

geojones - 15-3-2009 at 06:10 PM

recently bought a quad xxxl --took it out yesterday and today--nice clean 5-10mph winds.......this thing pulls like an absolute monster!!! BUT---its very predictable and when the wind picks up -it turns quite easily for its size(9.66m)......flew it in the buggy a bit, mostly static,as im still working on my buggy technique:rolleyes:--had some great scuds 50 ft and didnt fall down once!! a(a big plus when youre almost 50) and its like being harnessed to a big dumptruck......previous owner told me there was a bridle issue(stretched, maybe) and it wouldnt climb to the zenith--i didnt have any problems with kite going to the zenith--maybe was the handles he was using or something else......this kite is EXCELLENT!!!!!:singing::singing:

No it wasn't the handles I was using or the lines. I have many sets of lines and many handles. I'm telling you there is something wrong with that kite compared to a new one.

Glad it is working out for you and becareful that thing is a beast!

Tridude-you have a the Kitesurfer version not the Competition version right.

Well compared to a Pansh....even a busted Quadrifoil Competition X kite flys like a dream

Glad you are liking it. I just couldn't deal with it sitting in my closest any longer. I kept looking at it and getting pissed.

Have fun!

lol--hey buddy lay off my pansh!!my legend flies like a dream! i was thinking that im too inexperienced to really know how this kite flies,so im sending it to powerzone next month so he can check her out........

The 'ol Pansh argument....:wee: I flew one in the pass the Pansh program awhile back and didn't like it much.

Yeah, John can give the Quadrifoil XXXL a once over and see if he can find something wrong.

I would suggest starting by measuring all the bridle lines and make sure the left and right side matching lines are the same length. If they aren't then that might be part of the problem. If all the matching lines match then I don't know what to do. I'm not a kite maker I can only fly the snot out of them.

p.s. if you haven't seen this here is the kite you have back in 1999.

thats you flying it??what did the article say?

The Quadrifoil Competitions came with these "steering enhancer rings". They consisted of short length of line about 8" and had a loop at one end and a stainless steel ring larksheaded to the other loop. The free loop was larksheaded to a front line a short distance from the kites bridle and the brake line was past through the ring. There was one of these for each side.

With them removed the kite would sit further back in the window. This was intended to make the kites more "friendly" in funky winds. Personally, I could not stand to fly them this way. Does /did your kite have these rings?

tridude - 17-3-2009 at 05:25 AM

actually with the power rings installed the kite will set further back if you have your brake lines tensioned correctly. My Quads fly best with a slight crease in the trailing edge much like a Mac Para Bego or racekite..................Tap brakes on then release, nice turbo burst as the kite pics up speed, drives to the edge, tap brakes on, catch up.............repeat...........good fun..................:duh::duh:

Yes the kite had power rings when I mailed it off.
