Meet up at Sunset Beach Mar 21/22

sunset-Jim - 16-3-2009 at 08:10 AM

Anybody want to meet up this coming weekend? Beach is looking pretty good and with the rain and winds expected for the weekend, it'll only get better. As long as the rain eases up for the weekend :P And actually for the wind to ease up a bit too for that matter. Yesterday was CRAZY. The direction couldn't have been better (WSW) but 40mph (especially with my smaller kites left behind) was a bit much. Not that I didn't try anyway *smile*

I'm be up for it... I just got a Thule box off of CL, so I won't have to pack the trunk so tightly :)

In Manzanita, Saturday was wild... wind rain and hail, but on Sunday afternoon there was a pretty steady 25mph and long periods of no rain. I wasn't able to get out but saw a new land sailor on the beach!

OreBeamer - 16-3-2009 at 11:37 AM

I'll see what I can swing. I hope I can get out there.:D

archkiter - 16-3-2009 at 12:31 PM

I am hoping to make it.... you got the order in for good weather right? :)

fletcht - 16-3-2009 at 12:45 PM

I'm unsure, cutting back a bit on my travels. I figure I need 3 to 4 days to play to make the 5 hour drive worth it. Also watching the weather. Flew yesterday here in 5 to 25/30. Go like H.... then stop. Go like H... stop.

USA_Eli_A - 17-3-2009 at 11:53 AM

Jim, It looks like you'lll likely have west winds near 30mph for the event this weekend. I plan on coming out to play! Keep looking at this loop as it'll be more clear whats going to happen on sat!

Yesterday was sweet. It was blowing west 30+ in between s.h.i.t storms! It was all I could do to say no!

Looking forward to something sweet this weekend!

whoops almost forgot

look hard at the time line it jumps every 3 hours. So by tomorrow we should be able to see forecast for saturday.

MR. Ellis I'm running late to your house!

sunset-Jim - 17-3-2009 at 01:32 PM

Yah, by the forecast site I use it is also showing west winds for both Saturday and Sunday.

This past week has been awesome (in-between the showers anyway) and it is suppose to be a bit drier than what it has been too. But we all know all too well how that can change real fast... YIKES!! Everybody keep your fingers crossed.

vwbrian - 18-3-2009 at 07:47 PM

I will be there on the 22nd. What time are you going to the beach?

Around noon or so. Nice low tide most of the afternoon. CYA there.

csa_deadon - 19-3-2009 at 01:06 AM

Well the new kite curse won't be at sunset beach this weekend. You guys are lucky I'm workin1

sunset-Jim - 19-3-2009 at 07:15 AM

Sorry you have to work. Hopefully the wind gods will bless us with your sacrifice. Hope to CYA next time around.

USA_Eli_A - 19-3-2009 at 09:39 AM

i yi hi, the weather is taking an interesting turn. yesterday was some pretty sweet conditions, I did see someone out on a beamer 2m and and KBSS suspension bigfoot (super nice).

Keep looking here, the westerlies will likely come in with some showers, It's never as bad as it looks, the beach is usually clear when ever the mountains get rain.

but look at that big bastard coming our way next week. that'll pack some wind for sure!

hoping to head out in a few hours:roll:

arkay - 21-3-2009 at 01:03 PM

I can't make it down today but hope to tomorrow... let us know how the day goes :) Wind died in Manzanita at 10:30a...

1:30... ok the wind just picked up out of nowhere to 8/12/15 :) Looking steady! HF while it lasts!

sunset-Jim - 21-3-2009 at 07:18 PM

Absolutely wonderful day. Wind started picking up just as the tide was going out just before 1 and by 3 was blowing 15 or so from the sw. NOT a drop of rain or even the threat of.

Forecast for tomorrow is looking even better. NW winds of 15-20 with "chance" of showers. As long as the showers hold off, it'll be great.

arkay - 21-3-2009 at 07:45 PM

I plan to head down tomorrow and arrive with the ebbing tide. Cya then! :ticking:

csa_deadon - 22-3-2009 at 01:00 AM

Grumble, Grumble, Grumble.

Even more of a reason for me to stay away Jim. Pickin up the new Buggy from Jon on Monday.

sunset-Jim - 22-3-2009 at 07:51 AM

Sweeet, a new buggy. If not this weekend, there will be plenty more to come. I have set-up get togethers once a month from now till SOBB on the NAPRA site. If the forecast for today holds true, it's goin to be a killer day. WNW of 15-20 WOO-HOO!!

csa_deadon - 22-3-2009 at 08:05 AM

Have fun (hopefully!!), and say WOO-HOO for me once.

arkay - 22-3-2009 at 10:10 AM

It calmed down a bit from this morning from 19/29/37 :o to a more respectable 14/18/23!
