Raptor Rims

Krohn1999 - 20-3-2009 at 04:55 AM

Just got my new Raptor Rims. Don't know if they are avialable in the states so I thought I would share them with you all.

Rim is 8" high and 8" wide. It has an 4" off center hub so you can extend or shorten your rear axle depending wich way you mount them. (cheap way to extend your axle)
You can run them tubeless or with tubes.
Any Big Foot tire will fit on them. I haven't decided if I am going to put Duro's or Eurotrax on them yet. I am going to try both out this weekend and see which are better.
here a couple of pics. (I hope this works)

Where did you get them and how much did they cost?

Krohn1999 - 20-3-2009 at 06:06 AM

I bought them here in Germany at a kite shop (most kite shops here carry them) Cost: 49 Euros ea. with an extra set of bearings.

Hey Sailors,
Cool rims.
Too bad it confines you to the BigFoot tires.
That 8" width won't work for our standard 4.80/4x8 barrow tires.
Have you thought of trying some 16/5.60x8 tires?
Like the turf-treads.

I have been offering the PhatBoy rims for years.
Made of two PL aluminum rims - One half a standard and one half of a BigFoot rim.

See... the standard PL alum. rim is 4" wide.
The BigFoot alum. rim is 8" wide.
Using one of each I get a 6" wide rim - The PhatBoy!

The PhatBoy rim holds our standard 4.80/4x8 tires, ribbed or smoothie.
Holds the 16/6.50x8 treaded turf-tires.
Even holds the BigFoot tires - And because they come apart, it's easier to swap tires.

The PhatBoys also add an additional 4" to your axle width (2" on each side)
Your tires sit wider on the surface.

Like to trick?
Swap the rims around and narrow your buggy stance by those 4".

I've been using 12mm and 15mm bearings in three-spoke, stainless steel hubs.
No 20mm yet.
That'll require a new hub as the bearing race is bigger for the 20mm bearings.

The only problem is the cost.
PhatBoy rims run around $165 each.
Two of those plus a standard aluminum/stainless rim (4") for the front ($145) and you've nearly got the cost of new buggy.
So they're not for everyone.

Check out the PhatBoy rims at nabx.
The prototype-race buggy I ride sports them.
David Sabalino rides PhatBoys.
Ask him what he think about PhatBoy rims.

Available exclusively from the lama.
Just ask him.

Here a pic with 16/5.60x8 tires on Cadkat rims (same size as Raptor). So they will fit, gives you kind of a sportscar look, but you have to change your buggy around so your a$$ isn't dragging on the ground.
Now that I think about it this could be the perfect tire for the desert, And unlike the fatboy rims you get 4" per side not total. and I'm guessing that you could have them shipped from Europe and still be under the price of fatboys

just for fun I checked the Prices. If anyone is intrested they can get a set of thes rims for aprox. $200 including shipping to the states.

vwbrian - 21-3-2009 at 05:14 AM

You could have a Euro guy going to nabx just bring you a set if its not to late.

ripsessionkites - 21-3-2009 at 06:46 AM

does buggywheels sell it?

could have been possible for the Dutch to bring a set however Maarten and Robert have left for LA already. Ruudje / Ozzy / Arjen already shipped their items by AIR to AWOC.

arent the Raptor Rims same as the AS Rims? we can get AS Rims w/ 20mm Bearing here in Canada / USA through PL.

Ozzy - 21-3-2009 at 07:22 AM

We have 2 sets of full size wheels already at AWOC, they don't heve to come back with us, so most probably for purchase after the NABX. I have to check when we are on site, with our sponsor what the price will be.

If interrested contact me, or Ricardo.

regards,
Ozzy.
