Hey Brent_P you beat me to posting this. Where are you on the island? I'm in St. John's and have been finding it hard to find people to go with, I have heard there is a better group on the west coast. Don't know if you are on facebook but there is a group called "Newfoundland Kite School" set up by the guys who ran the course I took.

I'm Just getting started in kiting but after this winter I'm completely hooked. Been enjoying, this last dump of snow on the Avalon. Hoping the snow will stick around until my shiny new Coyote skates arrive.

Hey guys. The optimist in me will be hitting the water this summer here at home but I'm going to be out in Newfoundland (family in Bay D'espoir) for two weeks in September. Might be cold but I'll have a wetsuit packed and heard from one of the schools out there that there's gear that can be rented. I might be looking for a tour guide or two if you're all still flying come September. Regardless, a beverage by the docks might be in order?

Hey there Newfieflyer

too bad you're not closer... Im on the west coast myself, Stephenville to be exact. There are lots of places to fly around here and LOTS of wind, but unfortunately I have never seen anyone here with a power kite except for myself. I see all these advertisements for "MyNewfoundlandAdventures.com" and they claim to offer kite boarding and kite surf lessons however have never seen them in action, they have a villa setup at the base of Marble mountain.

Im heading down to St Augustine next week and will be taking some lessons on the water with any luck, since I do not want to be limited to winter kite activities and I figure it best to get some instruction on the water rather than self teach as I have done to date.

I'll checkout the facebook group a little later when I get home from work and see if anyone lives in my neck of the woods. Flying solo is fun, but i'd like to have someone to fly with for safety sake and to share in the aoxomoxoa!

:bouncy:

Here is the site I quoted above... click winter or summer at the top to see what they offer, I think this may be the group macboy was talking about!

Yup - that's them. Here's the info I got from them via email:

"Shallow Bay is an amazing kite surfing location, and September would be an ideal time to go. We do offer great tours as well as rentals on boards, kites, and wetsuits. (wetsuit is recommended.)"

I assume Shallow Bay os around St. John's?

Hey there,

I'm in CBS and will be receiving my 5m Ozone Flow this week.

I've been flying 2 line stunt kites for about 7 years, and I have a 1.8m Prism Stylus foil, but I'm looking for more pull and want to get out snow kiting next winter.

I'd be up for meeting up with other locals over the summer.

BTW, Shallow Bay is about 9-10 hours drive from St. John's. It's on the west coast in Gros Morne national park.
